Mercury Rising

Just playing with the E-Trac and camera while on a hunt Thursday. Was out at a 1910 house permission that I have had. One thing about this yard is that it appears they had a structure fire long ago as the back yard is infested with rusty nails and charred wood in the ground. You definitely have to go low and slow while hunting. I was doing just that when I got a nice and quick high squeak among the iron while running an open screen. In between the high ferrous numbers I would get a quick 12-44 every few sweeps. I dug down and first pulled a big rusty nail out of the hole. The pin pointer said I still had a target in the hole so I removed the soil bit by bit until I could see I had a Mercury dime lying flat in the hole at 5 inches. After giving it a little Foo Foo juice, turns out I had found a very nice 1918 S Merc hidden in all that rusty iron. Thought I would take a few pictures and share them on here.

That's some nice detail on the merc. Usually the older mercs i find are pretty worn. Yours looks nice for the year.

The early ones are usually pretty worn when I find them too. I was pretty surprised when I saw the date and mint mark.

Congrat's on finding a nice older Merc in really shape. It does help to go low an slow in those iron areas.

It's always a thrill when you see a Merc come out of the ground !
