I was digging along a sidewalk today. It is in my old neighborhood and when I was a kid this older man hunted the neighborhood every day , weather permitting. This spot appeared to be hunted pretty good. I found about a dozen memorial pennies a couple of nickles , toy car but not the old trash I expected. There was one good signal right next to the sidewalk . Not loud but it sounded like a silver dime . About 6 or 7 inches down came a 1944 Merc. Theres still a lot more area to hunt . I hope that old man left a few more for me.

I was using the Vaq with stock coil , threshold at 1 oclock , sensitivity at 10, Disc set at foil.

Nice job on the silver dime hatpin. I bet you dug a lot of trash working along a sidewalk with the disc. at foil. I don't have that kind of endurance anymore.

I didnt dig all that much trash. Can slaw was the biggest nuisance . Just a few tabs , screw caps and bottle caps.

way to go hat. thats always nice to find.

I dont know if its foil actually. I set it on the line before nickle .
My vaquero will pick up on foil a lot of the time when I have the disc. set on first mark below nickel. I don't know if it is possible but my disc settings have seemed to change from when I first got the vaquero.

Thats a great find and excellent story! :clapping: Now that I'm a detectorist, I find myself thinking about where I grew up in the early 60's in Detroit...we were outside constantly, there was a Good Humor Man who pulled up at certain places daily...we also played outside at night on the corners where the street lights were..Also, we ran the alleys a lot, after school they were our kid highways directly to the corner store....I'd sure like to get back in there someday and give it a fast sweep..I did check it out by satellite, to sort of plot a run, but I dont think I could get in there and out with my life or my gear from the looks of it now...
Mud .

I prefer to go lower on the disc but the site was to noisy for that. I ignored scratchy signals and signals that were hard to pinpoint. If the foil gets thicker further along, I will up the disc a little more but I want to keep the nickles. A lot of objects disc out at nickle

Even in my small town there are neighborhoods to avoid. We get a lot of out of town drug dealers and they would be suspicious of me. Meth heads are unpredictable and paranoid too.

Very nice silver coin ,

Nice job on the hunt! The old man that hunted it out years ago obviously didn't have a Vaq!

Mud, I hear ya on those Detroit neighborhoods. Made a wrong turn at night in Detroit. Bad mistake. I stopped at a convenience store and the guy behind the bullet proof glass said "boy, you shouldn't be here". He gave me quick directions and said to just drive through any red lights and don't stop!
