merc and silver toe ring today

Took the Pro for a dip in Lake Mich this morning. Found a cut blown out right down to the hardpack. Was running pro zero 40disc 3 clicks from full sens, iron off...all targets were maybe half a scoop deep, so a guy could run a lighter sens yet. Going after chains, so I was digging all scratchy signals as well as the full ones. The little 925 toe ring was a scratchy signal, 42ish on the tid. Got some tarnished clad and older green pennys, .22 rds and split shots, small scraps of foil and the usual tabs, hot rocks, etc. Big Lake was flat and cold, waders are leaking in multiple places now, both legs, and evidently I have walked the crotch out of them because thats where the primary and most annoying leak is. They are basically now a wetsuit with boots attached! Hands froze up good, not wearing gloves but should have. Need to get new waders and those shoulder length trappers gauntlets. Got a big stainless steel ring and some clad yesterday also out of the Big lake...no gold since early sept. Hope everybody is rewarded with some great finds!

Nice finds Mud. You deserve those and a gold piece for persevering under some tough conditions. For you, if you work hard, a new pair of waders is about three good clad stabbin hunts. HH jim tn

Yeah, well you were right there NM... Like Jim said, I just gotta grab a stinky heap O clad, or wear garbage bags inside my waders and tough it out! She even took that little toe ring away from me today...I bet it dont weigh 3gr...I dont know if I'll ever learn this lesson.

Nice finds on the mercury and the toe ring. My waders have started leaking and I can't find the hole. Where can you find some of those trapper gloves? That's the hard part of hunting the water in the winter is my arms freeze off. Hope you find some gold soon, mud. The last ring I found was my first stainless steel ring. Sure got my hopes up until I saw the SS inside the band.

I bet Tractor Supply or your local farm fleet or farm supply carrys something suitable for gauntlets, or google up some actual supply house that caters to trappers...If a fellow intends to hunt water all winter, I think they are needed. I trapped for years, since I was 13 and never had a pair, but then again, a guys hands were not in the water all the time like when a fellow is wading and hunting. I'm gonna hang in it for a long as I can, good hunting with nobody around and the Fall storms can carve out big sand, and then fill it right back in in short order.

Sounds like a good day to me, Mud. Course I haven't been able to get out hunting for about 7 weeks now, so a couple of zincolns would sound good. Lake Michigan huh? How much time left before old man winter shows up? I know the first flakes I see are gonna make me wish I had found more time. Congrats, hope you get lots more good hunts in before the white $%#@$ gets here. Artie
