'Mental note to self'...

I've been using my ACE with the 9X12 coil and all metal setting lately. I'm really trying to learn this detector for some upcoming (HOPEFULLY) hunts. So I was thinking about a recent hunt and a target I recovered and 'logged' a mental note about the result I got.. The ACE rang out on a target and called it a good target at 6 inches. It was a bouncy signal that kinda had me wondering if maybe it was right on top. Anyway I ran my ProPointer over the target and it started going off immediately! After scraping off the first inch or so I still had no target though. So I kept digging till I got to 6 inches...and found a crumpled soda can! So mental note to self: the Propointer will pick up a coke can at 6" in wet mulch!! I don't have it supertuned with the foil either! Why had it not occurred to me to air test the thing with something other than coins, rings and watches!?!? Now I have an even better reason to build my 'mock wall', and mason jar full o'silver test garden!

Oh, the other thing..I need to learn better about how the ACE reacts to cans and other trash. I've gotten pretty decent with small foil, but nails and even TACKS still give me fits. I know, I know, I'm using all metal, but I figure that's the best way to learn what the ACE is telling me!! My Scorpion is a beep/dig machine, so I'm only doing a small amount more work with the ACE in all metal. This mode is very important to me since I plan to run the ACE this way to search for caches!

When you suspect a can or other large target raise the coil up about six to eight inches or even more. If you still get a signal you can pretty well figure it ain't a coin. This wil save you a lot of frustration.

pin point will also give an indication as to the size of the target coins give a small blip cans will give a drawn out beep. most caches will give a longer beep.
good luck for finding a jar of silver & don't forget to post pics when ya find one.

Well...the CACHED jar of silver may be a long time coming! However, I WILL post the results of the jar of junk silver test garden! I actually have several pounds of old silver coins...but that's my collection! Don't wanna bury THOSE! LOL...

Good tip on the raising the coil! I had seen that before but forgot about it in the heat of battle! I'm still loving my ACE and think it's a bit more machine than many give it credit for! That little ProPointer though, man, what a GREAT peice of gear THAT is!! I air tested some larger targets in my garage and lemme tell ya, unless you do it for yourself you may doubt my results!
