One of my memories goes to Dr.Furlong who delivered my son 34 years ago.As a young Airman waiting out side a operating room for hours my wife had complications and had to have emergency surgery to save our son.I was tired and with little hope and AWOL because of the complications.Anyway Dr. Furlong woke me up with a hand on shoulder while sleeping on the hard bench and asked if I was OK.I explained no I was overdue back to Chanute AFB and worried about my wife and new born.He could see the tears in my eyes and said son everything is going to be OK .He said I still have a place in the reserves I'll write you a excuse. The old 70 plus year wrote me an excuse and a couple of days later presented it to the First Sargent.Anyway they treated me great on base never could figure that out until Dr. Furlongs death. The whole newspaper in Pontiac was dedicated to this old doctor upon his death.Dr. Furlong was a WW1 Congressional Medal of Honer vet who saved a lot of GIs by rushing a German machine gun nest and killing and capturing German soldiers..

I get to go detecting every week. I owe that freedom to the men and women who have served throughout my life and my ancestors lives. Without them, we would have no freedoms to enjoy life's pleasures. Thank You!!!!!
