melted metal found

I find quite a bit of melted metal while detecting. Some of it is lead(pretty soft) , some could be Silver, some Babbitt and what ever else. How do you tell what is what? I was told once that different acids will tell you, as well as gold if needed.
But I dint know that for sure. Any Ideas on how to check this stuff.

I think most of the melted stuff that looks like silver is aluminum. Some from cans being tossed in camp and trash fires. I find a lot on my property. Keep it because aluminum has a good scrap value. In fact I scrap out any copper and aluminum. After a year it's enough for a big pack of batteries and a Happy Meal!

Thanks , I have found alot of aluminum as well but this is alot heavier than that.

You could buy a test kit? Maybe take it to your local pawn shop and they may do the test for you. Does a magnet stick to it? If so you'll know it's not silver, gold or lead.

What kind and where do you find such a kit?? What does it consist of do you have any Idea?

I don't have one myself. But if you type in "precious metal test kit" several come up.

Quite some time ago I found a hunk of melted gold next to a house fire. Weighs an ounce and a half. They have gold test kits you can buy to check your finds with.

Found a hunk of silver about 5 years ago on the bank of the Hudson river near Coxsackie. Found out a barge with silver was destoyed when went aground a long time ago.
