Melt it down or sell it?

I have a question.

Is it better dollar wise to sell a gold band on Craigslist rather than sell it for melt value?

Any opinions? My wife says it is better to sell outright on a website like Craigslist.

You can try, but it likely would not bring more than melt value. Most used jewelry are purchased by precious metals speculators, hoping the market continues to increase in value.

Trying to find the one buyer who likes the style of the ring you have and the correct size finger that it will fit is a hard sell online. Jewelry shops do well because they have many different styles and sizes. So someone looking for a ring has many choices. You only have one choice and it is only in one size.

If you have a ebay account log onto it and enter a description of your item then click on completed listings. This will show all of the items with similar description sold or not sold in the last two weeks.

Melt value is the faster and easier dollar to get.
