Mega Beach Sweep!

Well, I was up at 3am, made a pot of coffee, checked the Forums, and had my bare feet at the beach by 4...Looked like a garbage truck exploded after last nights 4th celebration! I fired up the F70 and decided to Ground Balance using the headlights of my car for light..it was dark!...got a 91 on the meter, jacked up sens to 65 so I could high coil quick broom this place, left everything else standard, DP tones, DE mode, 4disc, -3thresh...I needed to work really fast through the trash for fresh drops before all the other sweepers show up! A nice cool 50ish degrees, onshore wind, barefoot, wearing shorts and a light button up, left the glasses in the car since a fellow is blind hunting anyway, it let me do what the F70 does best, which is really fly! Perfect mudpuppy/F70 hunting conditions!

This beach is hammered daily by a lot of other guys, and I knew the hardcores would soon be hot on my tail. The beach patrol makes its last pass looking for drunks and people (like me) to run off at about 3am, and I'm sure there was a lot of activity after the fireworks display into the 2am time frame..It was very dark, and I dont use any light, with DP tones, a guy knows right away what the ping most likely is..once a guy shakes the scoop, you can feel if the "foil" target is foil or a ring, a ring really clangs around and feels heavy!...I use a very light, fast, small 5" bucket scoop with a 3-4' handle and swing it like an axe...Started hittin' and gettin'!...kept on at it, stayed on the crab and just worked it...waiting for the sun to come up to expose the valuable non-metallics, and the visible cooler tracks, towel prints, cigarette butts, cans, etc...

Amazingly, none of the other sweepers showed up! I had the whole place to myself until 6:30, when they finally started trickling in! Knocked the stink out of fresh clad...34Q's, 21D's 8N's, 41P's, a 10cent euro, for 11.41 and 104 coins...50c in empty cans, 2 nice towels, a big Coleman Cooler, 2 sets of sandals, (one set is Clarke, brand dang new! Heels are not even worn down! Looks like they were bought yesterday! retail for 80.00 and fit!) an Adidas tee, and a really nice fresh drop watch that retails @125.00, a bottle of Rum,:buds: a matching set of 925 earrings hooked together so they would'nt get lost, two junk rings, a junk bracelet![attachment 294640 adidas.jpg][attachment 294641 clarke.jpg]

By noon, there wont be a scrap of foil from the waterline to 50yds inland...there was so many empty cans, and a ton of those sunblock spray containers, this place is a nightmare to try to hunt if a guy is running too hot...a guy just cant pick in between them effectively...notable scoop big spill was 4Q's 1D 1N and 9Ps....I headed off to the side when the other guys got there, and just sort of dinked around hunting waiting for the beer store to open at 8am..which luckily it did! The Wife is very happy with the earrings, but most happy about the Clarkes...she was insisting that I needed to buy a pair of quality sandals for the summer...As If I'd drop any kind of money on sandals when I can find them, especially 80 bucks!! Well, I had a blast and feel great! I'm sure the Rum and beer have something to do with it, but more likely its this damned F70 and what a pleasure it is to swing, hard, fast, and often!

Yeah, that's a good beach hunt. Who needs gold when Clarks, Coleman coolers, neat watch's, a pile of clad, tee shirts and towels and the like, avail. Mighty fine swinging Mud. HH jim tn

WOW!!!!!!!! Mud you made off like a bandit! I sure wish I had a place like that to detect.:detecting:

Those drunks leave all kinds of great stuff behind for the early bird to snatch up. Nice going.

good clean up job!

Very informative....and nice hunt. Glad you scored a nice watch and a bottle of rum ! Cookie monster is cool too !!!

Thanks guys,

Yeah I come out of these spots looking like a refugee pulling all my worldly possessions! :lmfao: Good thing its dark and nobody ever sees me in action, or I might catch a vagrancy charge!...Boy I hit this place just at the right time with the right gear and the right weather...like I said, this place is swept so often, generally all day every day, well into the night, but on the 4th, the beach was too packed late into the evening, the sweepers were off celebrating with their families and so on...so I was first on the spot. Drunken celebration, good weather, nighttime, sand, water, and fireworks are definitely one of the detectorists best friend..I'll sell all this crap but the sandals (and rum) at the Wifes garage sale coming up in about a week....most beach hunts up here to date have yielded poor results,...funny I didnt find one lighter or cellphone though? Generally half a dozen of each

Mud you are truly an inspiration to those of us who yearn to be free to detect without an insurrection.

Thanks Togg77, that means a lot, although I have an insurrection from time to time, and it hurts like blazes! So my Wife got me this little pillow to sit on thats shaped like a donut, and some sort of magical elixer or ointment that helps... sure is more soothing than my old timey remedy of biting my lip and scrubbing furiously with the head of a push broom coated in turpentine!
Mud

Mud you are a trip. But would you mind shipping my Cookie Monster and my wife's earrings back. I swear I didn't realize I was that drunk. I'll pay the freight.:cry

Yep I usually mop up at beaches too. I hunt around those beach chairs that you can rent out. Lots of coins and a bit of silver jewelry. Great hunt.

Mudd you are the Early bird and made a good haul.
