Drove around looking for a field to detect today, everything is planted or overgrown locally. Decided on a corn field as the corn is just popping up and is only about 2

Very nice Mike. Thanks for posting. Question concerning the hole....... or maybe a comment............. some of the "older" coins I find around here (not nearly that old) have holes in them. Initially, I thought they may have been used for jewelry. A few years ago, I read an article that folks put holes into coins so they could sew them into their clothing because they didn't carry coin purses or didn't have pockets. I've found some with holes that were smoothed and oblong, making me think that they did hang from a chain or something. But most that I've found with holes appear to be "punched" and not drilled. Any thoughts? HH Randy

I have read the same thing. Man that is an old coin. I can't wait until I have the opportunity to dig that kind of history. You dig up some neat stuff. When is your display going to be set up, and will you be able to post pics of it or include a link to it online?

Jeff
