Medieval harness mount and an old spindle whorl...

That spindle looks "sort of" like limestone. If so it will fizz a bit in 10% HCL, one drop will do. Limestone is soft and will scratch easily.

It could also be carved from slate or similar mud rock.

The grooves would be easy to make in any soft rock. I have no idea if they made spindles from fired clay. It would seem possible.

I am taking my geologist hat off now.
