Me thinks we stumbled upon a pre civil war encampment!!!

One of my friends and I have been on a beach on Lake Huron and have stumbled upon some interesting finds. Unfortunately if this was an encampment, Either it was small or most of the items we could reach are under piles of oak leaves.

I have found so far dropped unfired musket balls that seem to have not formed properly and an 1827 large cent. He found a pre 1800 dagger and plenty of dropped bullets and yesterday he found an 1839 Brittish Schilling. Will have pictures up tonight. Stay tuned!!

Now this is what I like, a story behind the finds...thanks scuba

A friend and I have been romping through the woods in a spot VERY close to where I stumbled upon a 1827 large cent.

We started digging up misformed musket balls that have been dropped with the pouring spout attached. I have 2 and one seems to be missing in action. He has about 8 of them.

This ladies head was also found there and it appears to have 3 nail holes in it. It is hollow brass and had to be attached to something. Again might be from a newer period also

Then he stumbled upon this interesting item last Tuesday. From an American Revolution book it looks as if it is a trench spear from around 1780.

Yesterday he dug an 1839 Schilling at the same spot.

We doubt they camped there long as not a whole lot has been found YET. The spot has huge oak trees and pine trees in it and unfortunately is covered with 6 inches to a foot of leaves from the oaks. Another few interesting finds in the same spot that we are not sure are from the same period are brass plates about the size of a dollar bill. All have a number stamped in the middle of them.

Since I am usually after gold, this kind of hunting is very new to me. I have yet to put my machine on all metal and will do that pretty soon. The area we are finding the artifacts is about 100 sq foot. It might have been a small camp or just a place they took a break. Hopefully we will find something more significant soon. Pictures of more musket balls and the schilling soon. Today I found a lead button in the same spot. That picture tomorrow.

With the thick oak leave covering may be the use of a PI detector will get you
deeper items. May have to dig lots of signals though.

A garden rake might come in handy too. Nice find's. HH-CC

Here are the pictures as stated. Nothing left of the lock, Horseshoe has 2 nails in it and one end is broke?? The button is MIA. Hopefully will find it by next shoot.
