Well i went to a fresh water beach today hoping to find that first gold ring and digging everygood signal in hopes of posibly getting that first target so i experimented in all metal mode and got to say quite impressed with the depth i did manange to pick up bb sized ear ring at roughly 11" in the sand and made sure that the vaq was ground balanced at all times then after i found that then still playing in all metal mode was picking up little tiny pieces of foil from anywhere from 6 to 8" deep, pieces the size of a calculator battery and smaller there were times my pinpointer would have to be directly on it to get a beep from it, all in all had fun with it then put that away brought out the golden for a few minutes listening for the high tones to see if possibly i missed anything on top no great finds to report just a learning day

just think a chain, charm, pendant, all within reach and deeper if its a ring:thumbup:

Good luck!

Neil

Glad you are getting great results with the Vaq. I too have notices that it is extremely sensitive to the tiniest specks of material at least several inches down, which I admit is great even if frequently annoying when I've made a major hole just for a tiny piece of rust or foil.

BEST ALL PURPOSE, ALL TERRAIN,COINS,GOLD,RELICS, JEWELRY,CACHE,?.I THINK MAYBE.KEEP THIS DETECTOR GROUND BALANCED,LISTEN FOR FAINT SIGNALS,YOU ARE GOING TO GET THE OLD STUFF!WORKS FOR ME,EVEN IF IT DOES HAVE A FUNNY NAME!.I THINK THIS IS BECOMING A POPULAR DETECTOR,I JUST HATE GIVING THESE SECRETS AWAY,JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF,IT'S HARD TO KEEP A GOOD THING DOWN,THE VQ IS SO SENSITIVE IN ALL METAL,HAVEN'T ATTEMPTED TO HUNT IN ALL METAL,AND PROBABLY WILL NEVER HAVE THE PATIENCE TO TRY IT!.

In all metal you'll feel like a gopher if you dig every target....lol!
Just remember the teachings of the Dog and check the targets in DISC.
Unless there too deep. The V IS awsome. And I've come to love it. :wiggle:

Never used my Vaq on the beach. Is it OK on the wet/black sand???

Well i can't tell you about black sand but the sand I was hunting in was very ironized with very orange streams in some places, up here in state of maine I live in the western foothills and it's very rocky granite style rock every where with mineral iron deposits every where and the vaq does very well in it, there's a river behind my house thats all very gravely, bedrock underneath and going to do some prospecting, has anyone else done any gold hunting with there vaq? any tips?

Hay amcjavelin,i have not prospected with the vq yet but plan to try,it is considered an entry level gold unit from the info i have gathered, and should do fine gold hunting,it's all in the ground balance and sensitivity adjustment, there is a field test in the latest tesoro metal detector information mag,it will serve the purpose just fine,it's all about practice.Chuck.

Can't speak directly to using the Vaquero over black sand; however with the Tejon and a big coil, I ran out of ground balance adjustment range and lost a good bit of depth over the really ugly black parts of sand but still turned up some nice finds. I have read reports that the Vaquero has more ground balance range, but really can't speak to that from experience since I haven't used the V.
tvr

Well TVR that the bb i found would'nt pick up at all in disc mode which told me that if i can get my ear aquired to hunting in all metal mode chances are i might be finding some sweet finds here in time, plus patience, now if i were testing with the 5.75" coil probably would've picked up,now this was an air test i was performing at the time.

You will probably be finding the little gold studs and backing pieces to the earrings too.
