Me and Goio were attacked today by a theif trying to rob us!!!!

We went to our normal hunting spot in a Chicago public park like any other day. Everything was cool.
I found a 1920 Merc, that is the end of my 71 day silver coin drought so I was happy.

I was detecting when I saw Goio saying something to me. I took off my headphones,
when I say a young guy maybe 16 - 20 years old throw a bottle at him. It missed him, but not by much.
The guy was like 15 feet away from us. I guess Goio was diging a plug when the first bottle came sailing
right passed his head. Everytime he threw a bottle he tried to rush up on us. He prolly thought we would
drop our detectors and he could run up and grab it. Well he got really close like 10 feet from me and whipped
another bottle at me, I saw it coming right for my head so I blocked it with my forearm. Just as before he tried
to rush me. This time I raised my shovel up and said "I'm gonna cut your %$&*@# head off!!!" well he took 1
step forward then ran off. He had another buddy off like 100 feet or so. Prolly ready to call his boys if anything
happened to him.

I wish I could of got my hands on him, I would of messed him up good. But my luck, he prolly is underage and I
would go to jail!!! He was whipping those bottels hard like he played baseball or some thing. The bottle that hit me
didn't blowup on impact, it bounced off. But now I have a big lump on my forearm, but that better than a broken
nose!!!! God I hate thiefs. The thing that bothers me most is that he tried to smash a bottle on Goios head when
he wasn't expecting it. Coward!!!! I atleast knew that a bottle was coming at me.

Oh yea, we still have all of our gear - he got nothing from us.

I own 5 guns but Chicago has some of the harshest gun laws in the USA.
 
Yea! Bear Spray ! That's probably out side the law too! I know a guy that just acts more crazy then them and gets away with it. When some one starts acting squearly, He walks up to them spitting all over his chin telling them they should leave, LEAVE NOW!
 
Think of it this way. A 16 year old can do as much damage as a 40 year old. You have a right to defend yourself. A glass bottle can be a deadly weapon. Second guessing your course of action could be detrimental. Yes you can get in alot of trouble for assaulting a juvenile for no reason. But can you get in trouble for beating a 16 year old's A$$ who was lobbing glass bottles at you and then split your arm open with one? No. The threat was imminent, due to the close proximity of the attacker. As long as you could explain to the cops your justification for doing so then you should be fine.

I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried away by 6.
 
You and Goio were physically attacked and that SOB actually threatened you with bodly harm, I would of shot him, that's why I carry a 9mm, some people are just plain scum, sorry this had to happen to you guys, atleast you two were together and not by yourself. John

With the current hysteria against people with metal detectors a mear mention in the Court that you were having a MD would mean you losing the case. For some unknown to me reason in some communities drug-dealers are hated less than THers. I can see it here in NY. I would be obliged if anyone offers any logical explanation to this phenom.
 
i think "deadly force" was justified as you was "assaulted" and also threatened with bodily harm!..he was "fixin" to brain you with his club!..the bottle!
"357" snub "magnum" is always in my waistband of pants and easily seen!..even from a distance!

Next time take out your cell phone and take a picture of him! (That's what I used to do with my 3 year old when he would throw a temper tantrum. Then he would look at the photo and see how ugly he looked! What can I say, it worked for him!)

Wow! That's just crazy! I would also suggest to arm yourself bro. I hope that creep gets arrested for another reason!:rant:
 
Glad to hear that you and Goio are relatively unhurt. You may want to take a look out with you if you hunt that area again
