MDs and cell phones

stewartlittle

New member
I just ordered a MD yesterday and should be here Friday.:clapping:
I was readin where electrical and magnetic fields can give false readings.

Will a cell phone make the MD go haywire?

Do you carry one with you or leave it in the car?

I know some times it makes my radio and tv start buzzin like crazy.

Sounds like a dumb question, but I'm new at this and was just wondering what/if any effects they have.

Thanks,

Hi Stewart,

I have used Bounty Hunter, Garrett and Tesoroes with my cell phone and have never noticed any interference.

One fellow on the Tesoro forum was having a problem that seemed to be receiver interference. He tried several things and was about to send it back to the factory for repairs when Monte suggested it may be his cell phone.

He tried it without the cell phone and the problem was solved.

Monte said that he has only experienced this when his phone rings. He said he has heard of other people that couldn't use their cell phone at all with their MD.

I don't know if the effect is due to the phone or the MD. Cell phones operate at much higher frequency than metal detectors but they can also emit signals that bleed into lower frequencies. So can a florescent fixture, an electric motor, transmission lines or just active house wiring.

That's what I know about it, Hope that helps,

They can cause a problem with some detectors and I do leave my cell phone in the car. HH jim tn

I'd read that it's more common with certain brands, but never had a problem with my Ace 250. If nothing else, and depending on the areas you hunt, you may want to keep the cell with you, just turn it off. Then should an emergency arise (Timmy fell down the well & Lassie is no where to be found) you still have it with you.

I don't seem to have any problems with my cellP interfering with my beepers,
but it sure sounds like a good excuse to leave it in the truck and go off the grid,
at least for a little while!
