MD'ing in SD for nuggets.

Hi, I would like to take my father (80) to SD for a week to do some gold panning and MD'ing for nuggets. Can anyone from the South West area of the state recommend a place? I checked an no permits are required for this activity, but am I looking for state land or what? I am thinking Custer or Fall River counties? Thanks for any help!!
 
Not sure about gold panning but for metal detecting in state parks you might want to check this out.
