MD time VS PC time

wonder if we would be surprised if we compared out time while actually out detecting as compared to time here on the forums.. Maybe it would be interesting to keep a log, but maybe not,,,, we would know why we do not find more relics or coins or wha tever we are looking for! I have only found 2 silver dimes and one indian head penny so far this year, but here I am ,and it was 38 degrees today, after work....something to think about......HHHH

38 degrees isn't too bad, help it doesn't help much when the ground is still froze solid. Also daylight is still at a premium after work, for a little while yet. But when it is 72 and sunny on my day off, I know what I'll be doing and it will involve more walking and kneeling and I'll leave the PC for after dark.

I have always been curious about how many hours I spent detecting. Not too many the last two years, I bought a house and had alot to do with it, but all those big jobs are done now and I want a little R & R time.

Take care, Dave

It is probably 60, 40 for me, with 60% being detecting. Being retired, I do hunt on an average of four hours daily and do hunt almost every day. Bad weather days will find me on the pc more then usual. HH jim tn

Number one is the weather and of course the guys and gals down South usually hunt all year round .
Number two is your age and your family responsibilities as before I retired with the kids and family and work had little time.
Number three of course is your age and health as gone are the 8 hour days spent in the field as body can't take it.
Number four is the economy and lack of a good detecting buddy to share expenses with long trips are usually out of the question as its silly to drive more than you hunt kind of thing.
Life is like a ladder with steps to climb and of course each step brings us closer to the final one as what goes up..goes down.
All in all I think its been a great 20 years or so and still get out and get my share for the time spent.
Being in my early 70's with bad legs I have to smile as one of our top bowlers over the years just retired from the game and he is 97 so if you see a fellow in a modified golf cart swinging just smile as he has climbed many steps and may ride out the last several but indeed I will be out this year come the Spring..
As far as PC time I try to add my expertise to some of the forums and hope I have helped along the way..

Sonny, I rarely post anymore, but I do frequent the forums during the winter months. When the weather is nice, I am detecting. I do look at the forums at night. Not to sound like a "no it all", but the forums are for advice or sort of a "show and tell" for people to display their finds. I don't do pictures and without pictures, you are not credible. With this being said, I enjoy the pictures and bypass the "routine type questions" posts. I would much rather detect than post! R.L.

Another way to consider the question raised is how much time spent on the PC doing research vs. the time in the field. I have kind of stumbled onto a different hobby that's related and that's hunting for the sites to detect on the net. Occasionally, I have been able to do some research on areas I'd never get to for some of my friends on the forum. Of course the footnote attached to the research if it's a hot one, invite me to hit it once with you. Jim
