about how the C$ acted ID-wise in this super mega-HOT soil :hot: :hot:
This was THE WORST soil ever......ID's went opposite unless it was a shallow plate........
I decided to take the Beep/dig approach with the 1270 as back home I have a tendancy to rely heavily on the numbers. I was comfortable w. the 1270 & had it dialed in on them ringtail "boolets". Sensitivity around 4 was about the best you could do & I felt the manual balancing/bobbing helped me. You had to re-balance quite often as well, but this was no problem as we knew it was a special hunt on hallowed ground...

I'll admit I was really concerned how the C$ would do at Brandy Station. I started out messing with the thresh and sens and so on without much success. Then I told Bill, that the C$ has ALWAYS done right by me, so I just went back to the 525 setting and the finds started to come. I can't stand the all metal tone on the C$, so I hunted in disc mode with everything accepted. MANY times I would get a signal (-25 to -35) and dig the hole. I would recheck the hole and there was SILENCE. I would switch to all metal and get the signal again. So I was constantly back and forth between disc and AM. Like most everyone else, I quickly figured out that you need to dig every peep.

After about half of the first day, I noticed the numbers on the display in the disc mode we matching up with the normal scale, only in the NEGATIVE range. In other words, I would get a -25 or so and would dig a bullet. I would get a -16 to -22 and pull a button. The scale was close to accurate, but in the negative. The ONLY positive number I saw this weekend was +34. I thought my machine was broken! I knew I had something GOOOOOD! So I dug a BIG hole and popped out the breastplate.

I have to say that luck plays a big part of what you walk over, but the key is to KNOW YOUR MACHINE! Some guys were looking at us like we had 2 heads when we took "Those iron loving Fishers" in those fields. But the Fishers did us proud! Some guys did much better than others, but I would not hesitate to walk right back in there with the Coin$trike. I think some folks figure because of the name that it is not a good relic machine. I think they are mistaken! ;)
