Maybe the oldest coin I'll ever find? (Washington)

Well I'm sure most of you count victories in silver...me on the other hand living in WA I count them in wheat cents. Of the 3,000 or so coins that I've dug in the four months since owning my e-trac only 17 have been wheats. One 64 Rosie and one war nickle in my silver collection. Nice to have finally gotten a silver though. Now I can stop obsessing about it.

When this popped out four inches down at an old park in Seattle, which allows MDing I could not believe my eyes!! Nothing special by most of your standards but for me this is insane!! I honestly wonder if I'll ever find a coin this old ever again? I love the fact that it was so green, something that I am definitely not used to seeing. Eleven years older and I would have had myself an Indian. What also blows my mind is that this 1920 wheat was made in the same year as a Morgan Dollar!! This coin has bumped elbows for sure.

Skyblast,

nice find. It is always nice to turn up older wheats. Standing liberty quarters, walking halves, mercury dimes and buffalo nickels were circulating at the same time.

Do some research. There are lots of places in Washington to hunt where you can turn up coin a generation older than those listed above. Hang in there.

I like that you realize your finds might not be as old as maybe some in the New England states but it just makes it more sweet when you do find something that is a great find for your area! After 6 months of looking I found my first IH over the weekend.....I've even found several Barber coins but that dang Indian Head was eluding me and finally I got it!!!! A beautiful green 1893..... that coin means more to me than any of the other coins I've found.... I know how it feels to finally get what you were looking for! Congratulations!!!

It seems I am in the same boat... settlement didn't come to my area until AFTER 1900 and even then everyone was so poor (done the research) this place is heaven if you are a tumbleweed LOL

Those wheats are precious! And I've found 3 silver coins here... 64 quarter, 64 rosie, and a 21 merc

Goodluck and keep diggin!

Nice going Skyblast. I feel real confident in the fact that you're going to turn up a number of 1800's coins this summer. I know you're putting in the research time...so its just a matter of time!

Thanks for the pictures and congratulations on your "newest"- "oldest"!

Congratulations! That's excellent.

That wheat cent looks like its in great condition. Its a 1920-S also which is even better. I don't see very many from the San Francisco mint here in the east, near Buffalo, NY.
Good luck this year!

Nice find!! I would love to find a wheat cent right now....still locked in ice but it's getting better. The town I live in was'nt really settled until the late 1890's, and last fall I found an 1865 2-cent coin. Plenty of old stuff out your way. Research almost always pays off....best of luck !

Wheat Cents are real nice finds.
But it's always good to keep in mind that - every location that you find Wheat's - also has the potential of giving up some nice old silver coins !

Good luck this season ! --- Mark

Nice Finds! Congratulations!
