Maybe a new :tesoro: detector soon?

In January I got a detector back I had sent in to Tesoro for repair. Tesoro did the repair correctly and didn't charge me, they never do. As always, great customer service from Tesoro.

Along with the detector, the usual repair tag and a Tesoro catalog, I got some extra stuff from the legendary Rusty Henry.

First of all, he sent me a copy of an article about himself from an old Tesoro MDI magazine. Attached to that was his authorized Tesoro dealer business card on which he had written on the back that if he could ever help me again as the factory service manager or as a Tesoro dealer (which he noted was totally separate) to let him know.

He also sent a very nice note attached to the repair tag about growing up and the good memories he had about going to a relative's house near my area as a youngster.

I appreciated Mr. Henry taking the time to write and send the nice notes, I know everything I've read about him professionally or personally has been positive.

But I started thinking about it and I've sent detectors (and the Treasure Mate pinpointer) in for repair multiple times in the past and never got anything more than the repaired item and tag that Rusty Henry always signs off on. Once or twice I think I might have gotten the Tesoro catalog also. But never any personal notes or a business card.

By the way, the Rusty Henry article was from 1995 and it totalled the number of hours he had spent listening to metal detectors which was said to be more than anyone else.

By golly, I kinda got the feeling that Rusty might like to be my Tesoro dealer. But why now I'm wondering?

And since 2010 is Tesoro's 30th anniversary, what better time for a new detector? I'd say Tesoro is overdue, I think it's been about 6 years since they've come out with anything new.

I also have received the personnel attention that you have. You must live in Missouri also, as that is where Rusty is from. I have talked to him several times at length about Tesoro. I think the Giffords are great people and they keep there R&D tight . They have no special engineers like FT or ML, just a small personnel staff of brilliant designers. I think when they are ready they will release another great product that will not have the bugs in it like recent releases by the other guys out there.

I've been seeing speculation about new Tesoro machine(s) for several years now and so far, nothing. It seems about time and the 30 year anniversary would be a nice time to introduce a new detector or two so maybe we'll be seeing something before too long.

I just got a coil back that I sent in last week. Fast and professional service as always. I love it when Fisher says they have the best warranty in the business. If it's not lifetime with no questions asked how can it be the best? Tesoro trumps them all. I'd bet you're gonna see a few hot machines out this year. Maybe digital, maybe not. I'll order one as soon as I hear about it. No questions asked.

I'd be all over a Vaquero based TID machine with the MGB for Discrim mode!

Also, Rusty Henry is really kind of a Living Legend when it comes to MD. I tap his mind and expertise any time I can. I asked him the other day that if he could only have one detector, what would it be. He advised that since he would nugget hunt in addition to coins, relics, etc, he would go with the Lobo. I thought that was pretty interesting, but obviously made sense. He advised that's it's also a great coin hunter although it's not well known for that application.

I just wish they would get the tiger shark and sand shark back in production?
All the Tesoro machines I have had, have been great.

I had a Silver Sabre umax that went bad and was sent in four times for repair and they couldn't correct it. I had a local dealer who just traded me for a Silver umax, offered me cash for the difference, and gave me a carry bag as an apology. I was a little dissed, to say the least, but after reading Rusty's article on the Silver umax, getting rid of the annoying auto battery check, and using the machine for a while-Irealized I got a great deal. Found out later they had to just replace the whole circuit board in the Silver Sabre. Just one of those rare things-worked out for my best.
