Managed to get out for 1 1/2 hours, checking out new areas....so far so good.

Tried maxing out gain and Deep off (one of the tips out of Andy's Book), so far i think it's improved my deep finds...deepies come through loud and clear, this is good for me as my hearing is average....need more time to know for sure.

1923 & 1946 Six Pence,
1927, 1953 & 1962 Pennies, and
1948 & 1955 Half Pennies.

Cheers,

time will tell

now try running up your sense to 23 or higher and then once you get that down good and able to separate better then try smooth sounds or long. I have mine set on long and after a few hours of hunting this way i was able able to unmask targets i had just walked over the day before. Now i only hunt in long cause it will really unmask targets much closer to trash or iron.

The manual even says long will do better and go deeper. But its hard to like long or smooth, its hard to get comfortable with that setting. But if you really stick to it and get it down then you will find more in the long run.

Thanks for the advice rbholt80.

I have tried Long breifly and I did find it hard to like! Auto +3 will typically run at 20-23 on this site, it's fairly clean in terms of iron.

But I'll give Long another go and and stick with it for a full hunt, let the results speak for themselves!

Cheers,
Greg

I cant run long with an open mask. its just to much noise so try a tight pattern with iron and foil disced out and see how it works. Oh and go slow with it.

rbholt80,
Just re-visited the manual, and the pick on 63 says it all, supports your field experience. "Normal" and "Pitch Hold" clips the tail end of the detection off....... "Long" and "Smooth" don't.....too bad if there was a target in there:unsure:. I can clearly see, in theory, that "Long" and/or "Smooth" could pick up targets that "Normal" and "Pitch Hold" would miss, especially in late detection. These two settings should result in more finds in trash, which has been your field experience.

Done some real bodgy air tests and feeling far more comfortable with it, especially now I understand what it is telling me.

Thanks again,
Greg

Iv been kind of preaching the long tone and sense above 22 cause i know people will find stuff that way. I wouldn't use it if it didn't work. So once you get to the point were you can handle the screaming sounds that it produces you will do good.

I hope i have helped and i hope others have learned a little to give them an advantage.

Thanks RB!
I used the long tones like you said. Found a couple coins where I have been testing several times. I can't believe how good the long tones work. I dug a penny at 10 inches that sounded like it was on top of the ground. I haven't used it much yet, but I'm having problems getting used to pinpointing now. Any tips you've come up with for pinpointing with the long tones?

no real tips for pinpointing as im still struggling there as well. It did seam to help me by using the sizing mode instead of the normal ratchet mode. I think its just going to always be a problem with co located targets. the strong target will win the race for the coils field.

Im glad i could help out. Play around with ferrous and conductive tones and keep the sense up over 22,23 range and practice.

good luck on your hunts
