Maui

Well Guys And Gals
Took the advice of a few of You and Took X-Terra70 on My trip to Maui for my Sons wedding ...This Morning was the first time i had a chance to use it ...found a short section of beach across
the street from the condo we're in,while the wife was picking up shells and pieces of coral ,I swung my coil for about half an hour and all i found was one newer clad quarter..but that made my day
I'll put it in a little case and save and give to my grand kid later (future)grand kid...Anyway that was the only signal i got and now it time for another shot of Patron.
Happy Hunting All

Maui is one of those beach locations that is hit methodically with detectors so you were more than likely going over ground that had been stripped earlier- so don't feel disheartened. I hope the wedding was nice. You probably enjoyed the chance to wander around in an Aloha shirt with your X-70 in the fresh ocean air. The nearby town of Lahaina is where a lot of the weddings take place but the beaches are not as good for detecting (too narrow and rocky) or they're private and attached to the numerous hotels there.

If you were staying at a condo near Wailea, that's the surfer's zone and there's a lot of shared apartments & smaller condos there. It's a beautiful island but I think the locals have probably carved a niche out for themselves with beach detecting. The trick is to beat the other detectorists to the busier spots (where the tourists and sun lovers tan themselves) just as the sun sets so you can see what you dig without a torch. The detectorists usually clean up the good spots there each night just after the sun has set and the tourists have left for the day. Same on Waikiki beach on Oahu too. The detectorists are so numerous there that I half expect to see a turf war soon.

I envy you there. Wish I could be on the Maui sand myself just for the fresh air and the view.

All the best,

Marco

Hey Marco, I really benefited from your FAQ's and wanted to say thanks. As far as turf wars it was bad enough when I was living in Vegas when I hunted for gold in AZ when gold was $ 350.00 an Oz. I could only imagine the claim jumping and crazy stuff that's going on now gold prospecting can kill a friendship I seen it happen I hop our hobby doesn't get that bad. I could go out w/out my P89 bcuz locals and immigrants would follow you in an out either for the detect or any gold you may have found. It's just not right as I was just in it for fun not to get rich never expected to but I met the only guy who lives in the area I hunted and he gave me some maps of where I could and could not go tips and always a cold drink when I was around! in fact he handed me a piece of gold an quartz the gold alone was over an OZ. then he showed me at least 40 OZ. of gold ! so I handed it back to him and he said no that's yours just keep bring me out the Vegas Sunday paper!! Unbelievable huh! No one believes me me but I was always bringing him stuff from Vegas cuz he lived over 2 hours from town and we got along great. sorry for the story but I tell everyone that story cuz it keeps me having faith in people. once again thanks for the info you poseted on the site it means a lot to us newbies
