New member
We are spending 2 weeks in February ,2008 in Maui. Have not been to Maui before and would like to get any advice on which beaches to MD. There are so many i don't know where to start so any info from someone who has been there done that would be appreciated. We are staying in the Kahana- Kannapali area. Thanks

I am going in Oct 13 just a few dys from now, new to hobby but taking it to Maui, i will let you know how i make out.
Cant wait!

Haven't been there before myself, but after a quick look at google earth, the area around Kaanapali looks very good.Good luck

I will be on the second busiest beach in Maui and not to far from the busiest.

Let the gold roll in!

I've been to Kaanapoli beach. Don't know if it's the same beach. The sand is very soft. When you walk by the water you sink into the sand well over your ankles. There is a section called black rock where I did see guys scuba diving with detectors, but I never saw anyone detecting on the beach. The beaches were kinda short and the dry sand area had lounge chairs from the resorts. Good luck...you'll need to find a lot of gold to pay for the rooms at those beach-front resorts.

Jamie, when you get back let me know how did and where you went. We are not going till Feb 28 next year for two weeks. We have not been to Maui yet. We will be in the Kannapali area. Do you have a water machine to get into the surf? I have a beach hunter ID so i plan on hitting the water, alot! Have fun, Dave

No i am just new to this been out 3 times just in small town paark and around trails
Finds so far
2 tooneys
1 looney
2 quarters
1 nickel
9 pennys
1 silver hoop earring
1 kids jewellry button

i have a bounty hunter discovery 3300

i will have to watch the control head in the water may be able to go knee deep.

Will see what happens i guess, most likely will upgrade next year if i do more beaches.

hey you guys the best place to detect is in front of your hotels and the best thing to do is to scope out where the people lay out and sun along the beach !
i would ck things out at 1 or 2pm and let your eyes plot out a plan for the next time you get to go and swing. my favorite is early mornings before people start laying out ! or at least you got a starting point !! good luck
and "Don't leave your detector in your vehicle" theft is bad along the popular beaches in all of Hawaii !!! i was born and raised in Hawaii and seen it happen to many people including myself ! so have fun and HH !!! aloha Steve

P.S. please no get mad at the slow drivers they just don't drive like us mainlanders !! lol

in our rental car, and ties the back seats, so they can't be dropped from the inside. This year, we put a sign on the window.. "We have already been robbed, and carry nothing of value in the car or trunk. Mahalo" I also leave the glove box hanging open, and we always rent older cars. Less likely to be broken into, and cheaper, too!!!

make sure if/when you lay it down the control is higher than the coil otherwise h2o could run up inside of stem and enter control. my younger brother lives in hawaii and calls it paradise still after 20yrs.

Well Bck from Maui and wished i had more time for detecting,
Found lots of coins all peenys, dimes, nickels, quarters, and silver plated bangle earrings, just new at this so still learning.
soft sand was simple to sift most times one scoop and had target, some deeper targets in the water and i had no shove.
wet sand is hard to sift, need a skimmer or something,

I talked to a local who told me to go to makelena beach if i spelled it right, he found 2 coins on the beach worth $5000.

I could not find the beach, he says the good stuff is in the water, he dives,

all in all no one on the beach at 6 in morning so you have a good 2 hours daily to really beach comb, i am sure as i get more experience i will get better finds and use the right tools for the job

good luck when your there and let me know what you find!
