Math lesson from last weekends hunt :pulltab:

Hi Guys,

Here's how the numbers add up from last weekends digs. I sure wish the ratio of pulltabs to gold was a little more like wheaties to silver.

Great math lesson but I think my pulltab/trash/nickel count to gold ring is stilted much more to the trash side (unless I'm at a beach). Thanks for quantifying your hunting. HH

That is a very, very cool post. Very interesting. Can you tell me what "type" of site you were hunting? Obviously I'm not asking for any secrets :) , but it seems like you had a pretty good ratio there at whatever type of spot you were hunting. I can replicate your wheats to silvers (about a handful of wheats per silver, over time, is what I probably average), but I would imagine I'd need to dig alot more than 49 pull tabs and 7 nickels in my average city park to pull a gold ring. Matter of fact, I've never found a gold ring yet (only one gold-plated), and yet I KNOW I've dug alot more than 49 pull tabs and 7 nickels in the past couple of months... :)

Hi Steve,

The best tip I can offer is to look for places that have the highest probability of a ring getting lost (places where people are throwing things like balls and Frisbees) in an area that is likely to have the fewest pull tabs (away from the beer). This will improve your odds. However, a lot of it is simply dumb luck. My hunting buddy was with me the same day and dug up over 150 low hits but no rings. The weekend before he had three pieces of gold in the same area with a ratio of ~50 pull tab hits to each gold find. There's a nice gold ring out there somewhere with your name on it. Given some persistence with a little patience ... you'll find it.

Dave --

I appreciate the encouragement! :) I'm sure one will come eventually, I just think so far I haven't been in the right spots, for one thing. I have found quite a few silver rings, but haven't yet been able to put any "rhyme or reason" to where I've found them. Just kind of random, in spots where you might not think would be any better than any other location. I found one junk ring in a sand tot-lot, which made some sense to me, but the other, silver rings were in parks in seemingly random locations. I'll keep plugging away, trusting that all the folks (like myself) who often cherry-pick the coins, have left behind a good bit of the gold that has been lost! :)

[size=large]in my classroom those finds would get you an "A". another ring would have gotten a " + ". wouldn't have mattered if gold or silver.
come to think on it, another gold would make you the teacher or "Ring Rabbi".

Very good post.
Its been well over 500 pulltabs, not counting foil since my last gold ring. Hunting in areas where people are most likely to lose gold like in ball fields is definately the way to go.
Congrats!!:clapping:
