MasterHunter ADS 4 Coil Question

RELIC_HUNTER

New member
I just purchased one without a coil and knowing nothing about this type of machine,I was told that being at 5.5 kHz, it requires a deepsearch coil. What am I looking for when trying to locate one.

You are going to have to go to a classifieds section and ask for a coil for that specific detector, make of coil and operating frequency. That detector by the way is just as good as a lot of modern detectors available today. Good luck!

Why would you buy a decades old detector without a coil. Where did you think you would find a coil for it? This detector has been out of production forever. If you're extremely lucky you might find an old used one. Check the classifieds on this forum and others plus running an ad requesting a coil for it. Contact Melinda at Melinda.Harper@garrett.com

Perhaps she can fill you in on what you'll need to look for. I think that one took the VLF/TR combination coil.

Hi Bill, Dose the coils form a ads 7 fit the ads 4 ? If so i have a nice ads 7 with a 6" 8" and 10" coil all in a hard case. I got this old detector, and though wow i don,t think i will like this one. After hunting with it for a few weeks, i sent it to Garrett to have it tune up, and now i like it as much as my MXT.

I've had a Master Hunter ADS 7 with the standard 7 inch coil, a 12.5 inch large coil, a Kellyco Hot Head 8 inch coil and the two box Depth Multiplier for 22 years. I still use it a couple of times a month and it still works great. In the last two hunts, maybe two hours total time, it got the coins and large silver ring in the photos - 14 clad quarters, 8 clad dimes, 13 pennies and three 1964 silver dimes. The ring was 6 inches down in hard packed gravel, ID'd on the meter as a quarter and was tough to dig. I found a lot of silver coins with the MH 7 back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, including more half dollars than with any detector I had before or since then. If the ADS 4 connector has 5 pins, and if I remember right they do, the MH 7 coils will work on it.
