Master Hunter CX Plus.......................being slammed!!!

New member
I'm thinking of getting a "like new" Mastter Hunter CX Plus with the black eliptical coil...................almost ready to buy when....... a friend of mine( who doesn't like Garrett) said it would be a disaster for my type of hunting. Here's where I need your guys help and advice. ( I always get concerned when a product is being "slammed") I hunt mostly "Dry sand" areas of light to medium mineralized beaches. I would like the detector to be good for gold ring hunting on dry sand beaches and parks. And that it detects Canadian coins quite well...........lot's of detectors don't! Maybe John-Edmontond could chime in on this one. I thank everyone who resposnds. am I making a mistake if I buy this detector................kinda had my heart set on it!!!!!! Thanks.

If Crackbadger, a well-known beach hunter, and John can do well with an Ace 250-well go figger. The only negative I could EVER think of on this machine is that they're a little heavy-but I understand they are balanced very well to offset the arm fatigue. I know how you feel,,I've oft considered one.

I am not sure - but something else to consider is - batteries. Doesn't that take several 9V batteries? I know back in the 70 the Master Hunter BFO sure went through a lot of 9v batteries. Something to check into/consider.

I got a CX PLUS and love it, works fine, in every place I have used it-rivers, beach , sand desert mountains, snow , Ice, U name it , It does fine, balance is near PERFECT, uses 6 C cell batteries, battery life is great, and when done detecting, just lay it down and forget it till next time, it turns itself off after 10 mins of no movement, I (ME=> THINK THEY ARE FINE DETECTORS), why else would GARRETT have made them for 20 plus years:garrett:

Fellow says he had Garrett detectors; and according to him, they had poor depth, lousy ground balance, bad discrimination, not good on gold etc etc....he said he hates them!!!

What is the price? The Garrett CX Plus is a good unit, especially if you want/use the All metal mode. Not a high resolution nugget hunter, but the "Fast Grab" ground balance, near perfect detector balance, make this a good relic/cache detector. Are your beaches and sand saltwater or freshwater?
