Master Hunter ADS

Hello All,
Just found this Garrett specific forum and would greatly appreciate any helpful info. Have had a Garrett ADS Deepseeker VLF/TR in my closet for several years and now have the time to give it a serious try. Wondering how it would compare with some of the newer detectors? I know it's heavy and doesn't have the bells and whistles but how much of a disadvantage do I have with the older model as far as actual detection? Don't really want to spring for a new one at this time but will still cost me to send it in to Garrett for a checkup etc.. Anyone still using it?
Thanks,
Jim

Drag it out, dust it off, and go beeping. That old war horse will still hold its own with the new stuff out there and keep you happy till you want to upgrade.

Do a good ground balance and in VLF that baby goes deep! She's still excellent for relics and beach. Hot on silver too!

Thanks for the comments! I'm going to send it off to Garrett for a checkup and give it a go. I see it has a belt clip type of thing on the back. Anybody know what that was designed for. I guess if you take the shaft off you could clip it on a belt? I must be missing something.

Jim that was part of an optional Hip Mount kit. That big clip clipped onto you belt and there was an upper shaft much like a SeaHunter XL500 but with a remote VLF/TR thumb switch on the handle.
There was a standard jack audio plug to interface the thumb switch to the machine. Check in the stem hole on the box and see if you can see the standard jack inside.

The other option Garrett provided was the Seahunter type upper shaft again and two shoulder straps with clips and eyes provided to screw onto the machine.
The VLF/TR switch was used on the machine itself and not remote. A second strap was wrapped around your torso, so when you bent down to dig your target, the Master Hunter stayed tucked under your arm and not swinging in front of you.

If you have love handles like I do, the second option is much more desirable, as the belt clipped on is rather uncomfortable for the portly gentlemen.

That solves that. Many thanks for the explanation. It'd be nice if I could still get one of those options. I sent the detector off to Garrett for it's 30 year checkup :). When I was taking it apart I did see a piece of paper in the stem hole. I pulled it out and I believe there was a jack of some kind inside, I really didn't pay much attention. I am a little concerned about how long I'd last with the heavy detector. With back, hip, knee, and shoulder aches at times it could present a problem. Not sure why they call this "the Golden Years" :). As long as I'm out in the fresh air and sunshine I'm happy!
Thanks again to all,
Jim
