Massive Lake Mich cuts..

Big onshore blow for the past two days, heavy rip and surf...was wading a little in shorts this am, I have a 3mil farmerjohn wetsuit on its way...cool wind keeping the flys down, perfect morning for a hunt! No gold or silver though!, lotta clad and sinkers and whatnot...these cuts are so big and long, a guy smokejumps up and down the beach to hit a patch of targets..a fellow should stay at it on days like this..if the wind shifts and knocks down the surf, it will be superb hunting for a day or two then it sands right back in. There used to be 20yds of beach here in a heavily used area where I have found several gold and lots of silver in the past..did not find one pulltab today! All the light stuff got swept out..thought you warm water salties might like to see what we hunt up here, black sand and all. That scoop is my super ultralight that I generally only use dry sand hunting, its no good for deep targets in the wet...but with so many miles to cover, a fellow has to go light and get an idea of where to bring in the heavy gear this afternoon or tomorrow!

Mud,
You got more heart then most of us. You are a true Pioneer.

Wow that is a cut!!!:surprised: Doing an all day hunt and I would need Heli-support to airlift me out of there.

Cut like that I'm not sure if it would be good or bad? I have heard of a few cuts like that after hurricanes ..one on long island...said there was silver every where...

Good Luck Mud....Joe

And I get excited with a 6 INCH cut! Then I worry that it will be gone on the next high tide.
There you have a 6 FOOT cut and if the seiche does not hit hard, you could be golden for several days.
Just think what could be another foot down!
Enjoy, and don't break you lightweight scoop...a good tone would definitely be tempting.

NOTE: If you do not know what a seiche is check out NOAA's definition at:

Yup, and we get all excited over a 6 inch cut here in SoCal !! We just don't get the storms that occur in other parts of the country that can uncover that old gold...........sometimes I wish we did!!!

Few winters back was real mild and the winter storms ripped the shore like that off lake Erie. Coins were exposed from the 1920's and some old style gold women's rings, don't give up but be safe.

Man, it would be neat to live where you guys do! I have to drive 8 hours to find a good coastal beach.
