masking delema how does your detector meshure up?

i have a cibola . i just did a test whear i use a bottle top and a dime i place the dime 4" away from the bottle top so the dime is on my left and the bottle top on the right now when i swing from left to right i get no sound on the dime and from right to left no sound on dime it only picks up the bottle cap it is as tho the bottle cap is saying unless you dig me i wont let you find the dime now if i turn 90digrees and start sweeping so that i hit the dime first then the bottle cap i can hit both how does your detector do in this test and is thear a detector that can hit the dime and the bottle cap going from side to side? also i put the bottle cap and dime on edge and they disapeared then i put the dime a bit off edge and got a signal like to know how your detector does in this test pleas post you findings and the detector you use and coil i use the cibola whith 6x8 coil

I'm somewhat of a compulsive tester using nails or other small iron and coins but never tried a bottlecap so I just tried it with several detectors and coil combinations. The Gold Mountain GMT 1650 with 8 inch coil would give signals on both regardless of which one I swung over first, even at a sweep speed 3 or 4 times as fast as I normally swing. The Treasure Baron Goldtrax and A and S Special (a base Baron with notch and ground balance and threshold pots added) would give signals on both with the 5.5 inch coil up to sweep speeds about twice as fast as I normally swing, and so did the Goldtrax would with the 6X9 widescan. Gold Mountain Technologies made the GMT 1650, it was one of the last models they made before they went out of business in 1990 or 91. The 1650's may be almost 20 years old but they are still much sought after for their ability in iron laden sites. They are also very hard to find.

I do a lot of nails/ coin testing. I haven't tried Gumnar's test. One thing I have noticed when doing these tests is that the dime is harder for the detectors to get a signal on than a zinc, copper penny or quarter when nail(s) are placed closeby. The nickel sometimes hits better than the dime in some of those test but some of the lower freq detectors have a hard time getting it.

Gumnar, you may want to try some of these tests. Place a bent nail over the top of a coin, use different coins and see what happens. Place a nail on each side of the coin, use different spacings. Place 2 nails in parallel and then place another at a 90 degree to them at their ends, then place a coin inside, use different spacings. Cross 2 nails over the top of a coin. Do these tests on top of the ground as it will be closer to the results you will get in the ground, it will be even harder on the detector when this happens under the ground. Scan these tests from different directions, make note of if the detector does better one way than the other, set your detector to just knock out the nails before you place the coin down. Use regular 2 1/2" nails, the longer and bigger they are, the worse the results.

ya if a nail is over the dime even a 8 penny nail and i have any disc it all goes silent and masks the dime but i can find the nails very well in the ground even small ones i think thats how some sites that people think are all hunted out are not a dime under a nail well somone comes along whith disc and misses it or someone comes along whith tone I D and hears iron and misses it then along comes little johny whith his chep detector and digs the nail and then digs the dime or a dime on edge gets missed until a root finally nudges it a bit sidways and johny comes along and finds i will be digging all at least whith the cibola i may have a better chance of finding a ring
