Marshes mudflats wet salty sand

Boston Metal

New member
I am turning 50 and the wife will be spending 200 to 300 for a new MD. My first MD since the 70's and boy have things changed. I am very excited to get back out there and can't believe I have waited this long. Anyways...It seems to me I can get a lot for my money with the BH line. I can find older (but still new) time rangers for 300, Discovery 3300's for 250 and a scratch and dent Pioneer 505 for 200! So many choices. I have read that some Bounty hunters don't work well in the wet salty sand. I figure I need Ground balancing that really works. Any thoughts on which of these three will best suit my conditions? The Time ranger looks a bit much for me since I am essentially a "newbie" so particularly anyone use the 3300 or the 505 in the mudflats a lot? I have miles and miles and miles of mudflats to explore and I have watched these flats for years without seeing detectorists so I want to try them!

Thank you in advance for any replies.

I have a Bounty Hunter Time Ranger and I never had mush luck with it in wet salty areas. On the dry sandy beach it was great. In wet sand (low tide) I had false signals all the time so I gave up hunting there. I purchased a Garrett Infinium land & sea , and it works great for ocean hunting in salty sand and water. If you are looking for a machine you need to consider the level or mineralization of the water and/or the soil. Look at the section Beach & Water forum. This maybe the type of detector you are looking for. Ask the same question there and see what type of feed back you get. I wish I had before I made my purchase, it may change your mind.
