Mars Tiger coil, version 2.0 ?

I just got a Mars Tiger coil for my F19 and F5. While the site I bought it from still uses the picture of the Tiger coil as we know it, the one I got is different. No X pattern like the original one, just a plastic straight piece that crosses the middle. Different size but the configuration seems identical to their Sniper and Discovery coil.

The Mars brochure that came with it shows the four Mars coils and the Tiger is like the one I got so I suppose it is the way it will appear from now on. Anybody noticed this before ? I wonder why they would change the build.

The mounting screw and bolt are different as well.

That's what I thought as well although the weight savings should be minute (haven't weighed mine yet or even tried it). Perhaps they want a family resemblance between all their coils. Even the wire has their company website address printed on it which the other one didn't if I recall.

that's probably even a better idea the old one linked them to AKA guess they want to get away from that...

thanks for the update.

I just thought I'd write a quick question to marsmd and this is their reply:

"Thank you for your interest in our products. Yes, a Tiger coil now comes in a new housing, but it has the same specs as the previous one. Don’t worry, the coil simply has a new appearance."

I do use a wide variety of aftermarket coils and i do own a Mars Tiger coil for my T2,build quality is superb and built like a tank, but the problem that i found with the Tiger coil on the T2 and this is the only coil that it has happened with is that it does have problems Ground Balancing !! usually what ever coil i use and i do have many coils for the T2 i can put the coil on the detector and do a GB without any issues what so ever, but the Tiger coil can be very hit and miss and its been checked out under warranty as well, but i either can leave it in factory default, manual balance or the 3rd option which i have taken is not using it and its basically brand new that i have had for about 18 months and it just used as a door stop.

No other coil either small or large from any other after market or even being used on other brands of detectors have had this problem of not being able too GB properly, and a few friends have also found the same problem, they have off loaded the Tiger coils but muggins has kept mine, must admit it looks nice as a door stop along side my 15'' factory T2 coil which i call the anchor because of the weight.

Like usual just my personal opinion and observations.

Mega, I have yet to try it outside. It's been raining all the time since I got it. I had one for the X-Terra I once had and it seemed to GB just fine on that one. I had one coil that couldn't GB at all and it was a NEL Tornado that I bought for my F5. It was returned to the seller promptly. A coil that can't GB properly is useless to me. If the Tiger does that, out it will go and I will stick with Detech for aftermarket coils. I've had 3 so far and never an issue.I just like to try coils, it's a disease.

Just an update concerning ground balancing and the Mars coils. The 2 Mars coils that I have right now (Tiger and Discovery) function perfectly on my F19 and F5. No issue with ground balancing. No issue whatsoever after using them a few times in very trashy areas. Once a clean area is found, the machines ground balance with about the same value as when I use the factory 11 DD coil. I might give a full review of those coils sometime in the near future.
