Mars Pinpointer

OK here is the scoop. The Mars Pinpointer is the same Depth as the Garrett Carrot or very close.

It seems to be very Rugged and Simple. One hit on the Button and it comes on or goes off. There is no Delay like you have with the Carrot. There are no stages such as Low, Medium, and High. You can turn it off and turn it back on near a target and it will Detune.

The good news is that you don't need or want to do that. The improved Gradient response lets you know how close you are to the target. On Coin sized Targets it does not give a steady Tone until you are touching the target. On big Targets where you do get a Steady Tone before Touching, the Tone will change to a Higher tone as you get closer. It does Detect from the Sides but not as much as the Carrot. This for me makes finding my Target in the Hole much faster. It does not Scream at a Empty Hole like the Carrot. Very easy to tell which side of the Hole a Target is in compared to the Carrot.

On Coin Sized Targets I got an Honest Three Inches from the top of the Ground before digging. I popped most of my Targets today with a Screw Driver. All my Targets that were not detected from the Surface with the Pinpointer were at least 4 inches deep.

This Pinpointer is not quite as loud as the Carrot but very close.

In conclusion just based on this one hunt, I would not trade this Pinpointer for the Carrot. I found my Targets much quicker and moved on using this Pinpointer.

The only Con was the fact this Pinpointer has no LED Light on it.

I found this Play Nickle a 1955 at 8 inches and had no trouble at all finding it in the Hole. I also found this 1945 Wheat at around 6 inches again no trouble finding it.

I predict the dedicated Hunters will prefer this Pinpointer over the Carrot because of the speed you can recover the target and move on.

What's the price? I paid 128$ for my Garrett pinpointer and I thought the was high, my Garrett does a good job except for it gets out of tune to easy and I have to reset it quiet a bit.

The Garrett Carrot's Strengths Lie In It's Ability To Be used In Water To 10' Depth. Read the Last digit from the IP Certification Numbers on both Pin Pointers, then compare to the numbers below.

Mars Pinpointer IP64 certified

Garrett Carrot IP68 certified

I believe the price for the Mars is $120

I didn't even know Mars made one so thanks for the info. I like my Makro but I'm pretty sure it doesn't go that deep. I always use mine on vibration mode only. Does the Mars have a vibration mode on it ?

Regarding water, from what I can understand from John's post, it can withstand water spray but not immersion ?

Yes it does have Vibrate Only Mode. I am not sure about the importance of being Water Proof myself but you may want to check out this Video http://en.marsmd.com/underwater-crash-test-of-mars-md-pinpointer-video/

I put in a full day hunting with the Mars Pinpointer and I like it better than the Carrot. No problems worked great all day. This Pinpointer is just easier to find the Target.

Hunting in wet grass enough has had a affect on some non water proof pointers.
