Mars 7" round "DD" search coil

Sven

Well-known member
Anyone try the Mars 7" round "DD" search coil? Or compared it to the Makro 7" concentric?
I really want to get a 7" concentric coil for the Anfibio. But, spotted the Mars coil for the Kruzer and since they share the same coils, curious
about its performance or just a waste of money and go buy a Kruzer 7" concentric. Winter may be approaching next month, so would like to get out
with the Anfibio and a 7" coil.

I'm interested in 7.5x4 elliptical. I'm betting it will hit hard on low conductive targets in 19khz and be gr8 for cherry picking in trashy areas. I'm betting it's gonna be a winning combo.

I've used the 7" elliptical on the Impact and that is the best coil for sub gram gold, so sensitivity is definitely improved.

Sven, that 7" DD seems like just the ticket for more mineralised soils without sacrificing too much depth. Keen to try one.

... excellent Nokta-Makro round 7" Concentric coil. But looks aren't everything. The 7" Concentric coils I had for the Racer 2, Impact, Multi-Kruzer and the one I bought for the Anfibio all work very well. I wish Nokta-Makro would have made a 7" Concentric in the same round design for the CoRe and Relic. They didn't, but the open-frame 5X9½ DD works just fine for me on those two models. Sadly, there are very few metal detector dealers left anymore to offer local showrooms and customer support so most business is just internet/mail-order.

Then, it's an after-market coil. Yes, I know they should work and in years past I have owned and evaluated many after-market coils on Minelab Explorers, White's MXT and MXT Pro's and MX-5's, Racer 2's and several other makes and models. In the end I resorted to factory produced search coils almost completely because they were reliable and worked as well or better ... most of the time. Today I have 13 units in my Detector Team and on them or in my Accessory Coil Tote I have the better coils mounted or at-the-ready. That's a lot of detectors and many more search coils, and of them all I only have two (2) after-market coils. A Detech-made 7" DD for the MX-7 on a spare rod in the tote, and a Discovery Electronics made 5½" Concentric Ferret coil attached to my modified Classic ID.

Of all the countless detectors I have owned and used in over fifty years of active detecting, I have had more poor-performing or just dead right-out-of-the-box or brand new from one manufacturer than all other detector brands and after-market coils combined. Next to that detector company, I have had more poor-performing after-market search coils, and all were from Detech. There was one other US detector maker in Texas I had a (1) faulty coil from, and one (1) bad coil from an Arizona detector company. I have never had a bad search coils from other detector manufacturers. I just trust that the folks who make a detector ought to be able to come up with the better search coils for their products.

About the time you made your post, or a couple of days after, I was contacted by Oregon Gregg who was very excited as he ordered the round MARS 7" DD for his Nokta CoRe and, since he's busy with work, he told me I could use it and check it out after it arrived. I never got a chance because when it arrived, he was excited and gave me a call. I listened in on the phone when he hooked it up to cheek it out. It didn't work. Nothing, and I mean nothing. No beep, squeak, burp, fart, or and other sound (from the FORS CoRe) .... just dead (the MARS coil).

I'm glad I purchased the Kruzer/Anfibio round 7" Concentric from the big multi-line dealer in MA when I got my Anfibio 19 test unit in to evaluate. I can't think of anything the MARS 7" DD could do, if it works, that would set it apart to be as good or better than the 7" Concentric, and I enjoy the open-frame 5X9½ DD's as a mid-sized Double-D option, or as a necessity on my CoRe and Relic. Gregg told me this morning that he returned the defective coil and they just did a refund rather than offer a replacement coil. He also said it looked good, but he really likes his open 5X9½ DD coils just fine.

Monte, I figured as much. That's why I wasn't committing myself to try one of the Mars. I haven't seen any improvement in a number of aftermarket coils myself for other detectors. Tried them as they were bought used, priced right. Ended up selling them all in favor of the factory coils. Was waiting for your test of Greggs coil to see what kind of impression you got from it.
I have a 9" Anfibio concentric coil coming but, also just like a 7" concentric for the Anfibio for it. Looks like I will be putting in an order for the Nokta/Makro 7" concentric.

I have had, for the most part, better performance with aftermarket coils unlike Monte. Only machine that i could not find a better coil for was my Impact with small elliptical that came with the Pro pack. Has to be the best OEM coil i have ever seen or used since 1978. I think Nokta/Makro have some of the best OEM coils there is. Only company that i do not feel the need to look elsewhere to up performance.

I decided to order the Nokta/Makro 7" Kruzer concentric coil for my Anfibio.

Ordered my 7" concentric coil from the Turkey Nokta Dealer Incidectors who had them in stock on Oct 24th, arrived today at my doorstep in Canada Oct 29th.
That's pretty fast from overseas with Free Shipping.

Attached it to the Anfibio, has a real nice feel to the detector now.....................

I bought the Kruzer-series 7" Concentric, ¼" cabled headphone adapter and AA battery housing from the big outfit in the northeast US and that 7" Concentric stays mounted and ready-to-go. Very comfortable, and as with the same size & type coil on the Racer 2, Impact, and Multi-Kruzer, all the performance you would hope for in-the-field is at your command.

Besides, the outfit just looks great as your photo shows.
