I seen on a television show that there is maps that you can optain that show where outhouses once stood. There was a special name for the map and I was wanting to know how to optain them.

Sanborn maps were made for insurance purposes so they show much more than just the stores and houses of the time. They also show any outbuildings that were present at the time the map was made. That includes privies, storage sheds, barns, or any other structure. They are available through universities and some libraries. The company that owns them doesn't sell them but they are available online. You will need the password and username. If anyone is interested, I will post them here. They are a great wealth of knowledge as far as the information they contain. The link is......

You will need to log in to access the maps

I have used it many times and I actually have downloaded some of the maps just to see what the towns looked like back in the old days. Good luck hunting and I hope this helps.

I hope that you can find something useful. For my town, the maps only go back to about 1917 or so and the town basically looks the same now as it did then. In fact all of the old buildings are still standing! It is neat to see what they were back then though. Good luck!

Absolutely! My town's maps go back to the 1850's and one of those had a small feature with dashed lines outlining it. I zoomed in several times until I could read the caption "OLD foundation". (lol)

I'm having trouble with the Password and UserName. They don't seem to work. How old are these log on words?

Use the ones provided by united above. Just tried it and still works.
