Map overlaying

I don't use a special software. I simply scan the old map, save it to a file, and overlay that file to a Google Earth view of the same area by using "Add Image Overlay". Move around the Google Earth map so you are looking straight down on the image. Then I use use the Latitude and Longitude, some nearby roads, creeks etc, to line up the two maps, and press OK. You can then adjust the opacity of the overlay with the little bar down in the lower right corner, above Layers. HH Randy

The reason I like maprika is when using it on an iPad it shows your location, if you have the cellular chip. Overlaying map instructions are close to the same for all software. I was amazed at the accuracy of the 1800 mills atlas map.

Historic aerials is a nice site. I use plat maps from the assessors office too. The plat maps helps with who to write letters to as well.

Maprika is the way to go. Download it on your computer to work with maps and download the app that works like a gps for your smart phone.

I use Historic Aerials to get old aerial views; take a screen shot of it; convert it to a JPEG image; then use Google Earth to overlay it onto a current aerial view. Maprika's really nice too if you have a smart phone. Just can't get it on my antique flip phone.

All, google earth overlays work well. Especially, overlaying ALL your previous tracks. Search the forum for info on multiple tracks. A user has posted a process for it. Not gonna call him out though.
Thx
