MAP MONSTER! - Opposition to my Prospecting

I'm preparing for two aggressively executed Prospecting missions into the Gold Fields next week.

Unfortunately, my little friend loves paper. And he seems terribly concerned when I start to get the gear together.
He's also very social and so I suspect he hates it when I leave for a day or more.

I'm doing two brief trips to photograph several rather distant yet major regions here for future visits and to document the geology and
also the wildlife there. I've laid out the maps a few times to try to determine the best routes on the unsealed roads but
unfortunately my little friend keeps rolling around on the paper and even running off with the smaller maps when they're folded.

I'd bring him with me if it were possible. But he doesn't like the car and howls for me to take him back home whenever we go on a drive.
Will post again when I return. I'll leave him here with my wife to coddle him.

I enjoy reading the posts about your adventures. The scenery and wildlife are fantastic.

Looking forward to your folow up story........... Your map monster is great !!

STAFF! Cute though he may be. It's a pity you can't get him used to the car, as you might be able to train him as a snake hunter.
Good luck on the trip.

Nero, Siamese are notorious snake hunters. I was at the Yowah Opal fields years ago and a woman was camping with her siamese, when he dragged a bloody great Python into her tent , you could hear her screaming for miles, and he didn't like it when they took the python off him/her. She packed up and left before it bought in another

Have a good trip, I know there will be some great photos when you return. Your cat has the coolest eyes. Ron

Many years ago Marco, we used to travel with a female Siamese in a Mini. She would yowl for three solid hours. Solution = get a Siamese kitten. Older cat teaches younger one to yowl and sleeps all the way while he yodels for two. Eventually, he catches on and he learns to sleep while travelling too.

By the way, is that a video camera attached to your XT70?

Yes it is. I've often mounted cameras to weapons and lasers so it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I was thinking of getting some unusual footage of the detector in action since I'll probably find something interesting where I'm headed.
By mounting it to a stationary/fixed object like the X-70, the moving background seems less surreal.. with less motion-sickness when watching it later. Should work out okay. Of course, it might yet be the dumbest thing I've thought of so far!

Cheers,

Marco
:rofl:Too bad you can't get hold of a few cats and train them to "search out and destory."...snakes!
How about a detector/GPS/relay which can be attached to animals so they can report back when they walk over a specific target range? While we're at it... what about some HF coils for your shoe insoles? Hmm... that's not bad.

back in the 1960's my sister had a Siamese,"Caesar", who was the greatest hunter I've ever seen. The last time they let him outside was when he came home dragging a 5 ft long bull snake that he had chewed the head off of. Man, my sister can scream!!! Thanks for the laugh!! Bob.
