I've had a great deal of success using the Explorer in Auto in the Calif. area "46 silver coins the past three months" I feel Manuel is not always best for all area's. Especially in areas that have poor ground conditions.
A few days ago, Someone posted on the forum about using the Ferrous mode and Iron mask set at 16 negative "16-" I decided to us this at this old labor camp and park while hunting with two hunting partners in the open ground area while using the Auto mode as well. I noticed right away the difference of sounds it makes to Ferrous targets while keeping with the same high pitch sound for pennies, dimes and quarters. A few pull tabs and bottle caps also had the high tone, But! Read different on the meter.
The major improvement I noticed using this setup was that the unit would hold the threshold longer or maintain a steady threshold. Meaning! The machine is not nulling because of discrimination. I was able to hear all of the targets in the ground with little or no loss of threshold in the 32 Auto.
I was digging wheat pennies at depths that I have never achieved. Then, I get this really deep response and the bar graph reads very deep. I called my two hunting partners over and told them I'm about to dig my record depth for a coin. I pull a 8" plug out with my Groundshark, Probe down another two inches with my Periscope probe and made contact with the coin. It's down 10" inches and squeals like a pig from the Periscope probe. Out pops a wheatie. We are all amazed that the Explorer can really go down deep.
It takes a while to get used to using the Explorer with Iron mask 16- and the Ferrous mode. If you want more depth! Switch to using this setup, Especially in the open ground area that has been pounded by others. Anybody else using this setup?
