Manual/Auto/Ferrous with Ironmask 16- Tried them all all like the

I've had a great deal of success using the Explorer in Auto in the Calif. area "46 silver coins the past three months" I feel Manuel is not always best for all area's. Especially in areas that have poor ground conditions.
A few days ago, Someone posted on the forum about using the Ferrous mode and Iron mask set at 16 negative "16-" I decided to us this at this old labor camp and park while hunting with two hunting partners in the open ground area while using the Auto mode as well. I noticed right away the difference of sounds it makes to Ferrous targets while keeping with the same high pitch sound for pennies, dimes and quarters. A few pull tabs and bottle caps also had the high tone, But! Read different on the meter.
The major improvement I noticed using this setup was that the unit would hold the threshold longer or maintain a steady threshold. Meaning! The machine is not nulling because of discrimination. I was able to hear all of the targets in the ground with little or no loss of threshold in the 32 Auto.
I was digging wheat pennies at depths that I have never achieved. Then, I get this really deep response and the bar graph reads very deep. I called my two hunting partners over and told them I'm about to dig my record depth for a coin. I pull a 8" plug out with my Groundshark, Probe down another two inches with my Periscope probe and made contact with the coin. It's down 10" inches and squeals like a pig from the Periscope probe. Out pops a wheatie. We are all amazed that the Explorer can really go down deep.
It takes a while to get used to using the Explorer with Iron mask 16- and the Ferrous mode. If you want more depth! Switch to using this setup, Especially in the open ground area that has been pounded by others. Anybody else using this setup?

Thats all I run even in trash, but in the trash areas I just back down the sense and it's perfect for me.Another thing is depending on the coil your using you really can do some amazing things with these settins,I always have it set deep and for me it works...it may make some folks run away from the settings......BUT when you see the finds you'll stay put.Great goin Paul and HH..Brian

Also if you use iron mask at -14 you'll knock out many signals that are seldom good and make a lot of noise during a hunt. It will still give the ferrous mode lots of room to work.
HH ... Gord.

Hello Brian,
I went out today and it worked well in the trashy areas. I'm looking forward to using this more offen in the future.
Thanks for the positive response.

Hello Gord,
The more I use this setup, The more I notice the smooth stable threshold.
The machine seems to be more powerful than before.

Hey Paul,
I've been running open screen ferrous sounds for quite a while. Most of the places I hunt are homesteads and any iron discrimination at all leads to constant nulling. I swear that there is seldom a time without an iron target or two under the coil. Open screen lets you see where the cursor is bouncing and helps greatly in determining whether to dig or not.
Lately, however, in parks where there are more pull tabs and crown caps than iron I've tried blacking out the bottom half and learning in nickels. I've tried sweeping both directions before moving forward, hoping that a good target next to discriminated out junk will only null in one direction. Need to try this on a productive area and then rework it with open screen to see what was missed.
Happy hunting
Chris

Hi Chris,
I too enjoy the ferrous setup with the 16- setting. I can separate that targets easier and can see the whole screen and it's targets. I have noticed more depth on coins.
I bumped up the Iron mast a little, But! Went back to wide open 16 negative to avoid the nulling from discrimination.
O'well, Thanks for the feedback and glad that you enjoy this setup.

I know I'm new at the XS game, but, for the life of me, I don't see how you keep your sanity running wide open!
The sounds are really distracting most of the time (at best) and maddening to the point that I am grabbing for something much more stable, very quickly.
Maybe I should detune the sensitivity to stablize, but then there is less depth and (still) more noise than in other modes.
I did run IM -10 at the beach the other day w sensitivity a M28, deep, and was digging dimes and pennies at 10" (for the first time).
Suggestions? There is no one here in my area that owns a Minelab of any kind so it is hard attempting to learn from reading your posts.
Thanks...all help appreciated. <><
