Manta Ray

PaPa-Joe-Fla.

New member
While hunting in St. Andrews State Park last week I kept hearing a splashing noise out from the shore where I was hunting in shallow water. After a few times of hearing this splash I removed my headphones to get a better location of where the noise was comming from. To my surprize there was a Manta Ray stuck on a sand bar. After takeing a couple pics. I pulled him to deep water. There were two other Rays that seemed to be waiting for him to get free all three swam off in a row to deeper water. Here are a few pictures where he was stuck. HH

Watch those Rays.

They are the ones that killed Steve Irwin. Those tails are terrible and you were lucky not to get hit with it.

I usually let wildlife alone even if it is in trouble. It is natures way.

Very kind act...if you knew what you were doing. Hope you've been around such critters enough to know how to be safe...I don't!! I would've probably tried to pry him loose with the shovel or the tector rod. Jim

Steve I believe it was a string ray that killed Steve Irwin. The Manta Ray and String ray are two totally different critters. The Manta has no barb on his tail. This one was stuck because he got caught behind the sandbar in an area of water that ran along the beach he tried to cross the sand bar to deeper water and got hung up on the sand. I, like you, most of the time do not mess with wildlife, but in this case I knew it was safe and necessary as the tide would not come back in for a long time to free it to go on its way. HH

You are the man! Thats good Karma brother....platinum engagement ring on the way for you !

Excellent job, PPJ,
We've gotta look after our environment as well as our hobby.
I would of done the same thing, as they are pretty harmless giants.
Just like Dig said, good karma mate, your'e in for a big reward from the surf gods 4 sure.
When I'm skuba or snorkelling, seeing wildlife like that is an added bonus.
HH and good luck
