Managua, Nicaragua...anyone been here detecting?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has been here or lives in Managua, Nicaragua. I have recently been asked by my friend to join him on a trip to go here and I really want to bring my detector but I been reading horror stories off the net about customs detaining there metal detectors for a time trying to figure what it is or making sure it it is what it is. I figured I'd ask here being our forum is worldly maybe one or some of you may know or have had experiences going here.
Any help or information will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance :)
HH all,

Like a lot of other Latin - America country's, Americans can get a heap of trouble there simply because they
don't know the local laws or customs. If you know someone there that can check into it you might save your self a lot
of trouble and pain. Also remember they have a very high crime rate there and " gringo's " are a full time target, be
very aware of where you are and what is going on around you at all times! Also, do not take anything down there
that you are not willing to have taken from you down there. There are gangs there that cause much trouble both in
towns and out of them for anyone they think might have something of value or that they could kidnap and ransom.
Also there military and police are not to be trusted to be of any help, in fact they may be the big est problem.
Nicaragua and El Salvador are VERY poor area's so what do you expect to find there that would be worth the risk's
to look for? Best to think long and hard on this one before you jump in with both feet. The one and only time I have
been there was on a plane that had to make an emergency landing due to a malfunction with something ( we was not
told what ) and the military had jeeps full of guns pointed at us from the time we landed till the time we took off! Myself,
I'll fine someplace else to hunt.

me too!..try your own back yard!..it's safer!..lot of places in the world now
kinda f**ked up!..be very careful!..the economy is bad here,trust me,it's 100 times worse
most everywhere else!.."snatchers": everywhere!..survival instinct!

(h.h.!)

ok thanks for the advice everyone. Maybe I will leave the MD at home then. My friend has family there as well as lived there, so I think that my safety will be in good hands. But I will make sure to follow your advice just the same :) thanks everyone.
