Hit th base up here in Plattsburgh until the rain drove me away. I decided to find a spot where the soil was less sandy(this is tough) I finally found some ground where the older finds were shallower, 6-8" 
I dug enough nails to build a house and couldn't seem to discern what was a piece of silver or a cut nail. For some reason in iron rich soils the DFX gives a good tone on deep nails no matter how I changed the settings, I was also using the 4x6 coil. Well I did manage 2 musketballs and some change. I turned on mixed mode because it changes the signal a bit on those sweet sounding nails 
When I did I got a nice low button tone and pulled out my first eagle on a canon, with canonballs button, no I didn't have much time to research it, but it is a one piece. I have it in boiled linseed oil in a cloth right now. I checked on it this morning and it was gone, my motherinlaw is a bit neurotic with cleaning, so I checked the garbage, sure enough there was my prized button I was smart and posted a note on it for today!
