Last September's trip to Panama City Beach had me actually looking for a tent peg or two.
On the trip down, we broke and entirely ripped the handle off our large suit case; the one carrying the detectors and scoop. Figured a handle of some sort would be needed to keep it from being launch hard by the baggage handlers on the trip back home. Found a nice web belt in the water; an eye spot. Nice and sturdy to make a handle to grip. Got some bolts and washers at the hardware store but needed a way to put holes in the web belt. Though I spent nearly the entire week hunting the water, I took the HeadHunter Pulse up around the blanket line to look for tent pegs and after a few minutes had a few tent pegs. Picked the most rusted one (least amount of plating left to reduce the fumes when heating it). Put it on a red hot stove burner to heat it and then burned nice holes in the web belt for the bolts to fit through. The improvised handle worked like a charm.
Most of the time, any tent pegs I find hit the nearest trash can. After using one as a tool last September, it too hit the trash can.
Cheers,
