Makro Racer 2 or Nokta Relic?

Old Virginia

New member
Love the great info everyone shares here! I am trying to decide between purchasing the Nokta Relic or the Makro Racer 2. I currently own 5 detectors: one old (but good condition) Fisher 1266X (for sale), a Teknetics T2SE (also for sale), 2 Garrett AT Pros and an XP Deus. I hunt primarily in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley - old home/farm sites and some Civil War sites. I think I'm seeing that Monte thinks the Nokta Relic just edges out the Racer 2, so I was leaning that way until I realized the weight. I'm afraid it might just be a tad too heavy for my bad elbow. I used to have a White's MXT Pro and loved that machine, but I could not swing it for more than 30 minutes due to the weight. I can swing the AT Pros, the T2 and the Deus all day.

So what do you think?

Thanks!

Hey Bama - I got your PM and replied, but don't know if it went though or not. If not, send me an email: stonewallbook@yahoo.com

Thanks!

I'm going to make an observation that is meant as constructive criticism. When you ask for some advice and help and 300+ people view your post, but no one responds to your request for advice, it's a bit discouraging and sends a message. It also prompts one to concentrate their time on other forums.

I will add that Monte did respond on another forum and I ended up getting the Nokta Relic on a trade.

:ausflag:HI mate I have detected for 36 years in the early days using VLF detectors looking for gold now using pulse induction detectors. Over the year there has been many spots where I have found gold but they are littered with junk,so I have tried many VLF detectors over the past few years and last week I purchased a makro racer 2 Pro pack I find the weight is no issue , as I have only used it a hand full of times I am very impressed with the results so far regards john

Hey IB - thanks for the response. I went with the Nokta since I could not resist the even trade of my used T2SE for a brand new Nokta Relic. However, if I don't soon get the hang of the XP Deus, I'm going to sell it and buy the Makro Racer 2. I took the Nokta out yesterday to a site I've hunted hard with an XP Deus, AT Pro and the T2. I pulled a colonial buckle, harmonica reed, Tombac and an Eagle I button out of the same ground I've hunted with those machines. I was quite impressed with the Nokta.

You got 40 replies on the other forum. Most folks aren't going to respond to the same question on both forums even if you have different user names. Most all those 300 views were people looking to see what others had posted and to see what your original question was. The others most likely responded on the other forum although this forum is usually the busiest of the two. Good luck with the Relic and the Racer 2 is a great detector also.

:ausflag:I went out for a 1 1/2 hours and picked up many .22 cases and leads some at a depth picked up 1 penny ,as you say I have found going over old ground they just seem to pull out the targets. I like the detector easy to use ,good response ,I have only been using 2 tone so far but the more I use it the more I will learn , the mineralized ground is no trouble for it ,if you decided to got for a racer 2 I do not think you will be sorry regards john:ausflag:

Yes, 2 tone is all I used the other day. A bit chatty, but not too bad.

I have both machines, and both the racer 2 and the relic are very similar.
On the other hand they are also different.
Racer 2 allows full view and quick change of settings by having screen up front but doesn't bother me too much either way.
Relic is a bit more of my deep seeking machine. It does have more stability at higher sensitivity and depth levels. It also have the Swift mode which allows for denser trash areas to be even faster on recovery time then it already is, which was hard to believe. I have the 2 coils it came with calling with the 5.5x10 DD also. Favorite being the 5.5x10 for all around. Coverage of the stock large coil almost, but separation of the small 5" almost.
As for the racer, it's also an incredible machine. Depending on soil can be almost as deep as the relic and definitely a deep machine compared to others. I have the same coils for it that I do for the relic and the 5.5x10 is again my favorite for all around but each have their place. In my arsenal having both, I use mine in more of a general hunting and coin and jewelry hunting manner. This is in part because I also own the relic. If I didn't, the racer 2 or the relic can be used for any style of hunting and it will excel.
The iron area of the VID is a bit different between them. Also the racer 2 allows for adjustment of both high and low tone break- areas on 3 tone as well as allowing you to change the actual frequencies of the audio which is nifty, but not necessary.
So each have some differences but both are great.

In conclusion you really can't go wrong with either and both feel similar in weight because of the way the relic is balanced and in some instances the relic can even feel light when both have the 7x11 at times.

I did have the relic first. And you can't go wrong with either. :)

Stefan: Thanks so much for the advice. You've echoed almost exactly what Monte has said about the 2 machines. I was truly impressed in my first outing w/the Relic. As I said, I'm going to hang in for a while with the XP Deus too, but I'm leaning toward selling it and buying the Racer 2. XP is supposed to be coming out with a software update for the Deus some time this month. I'm going to see how that works and then make my decision.

Also, it just so happens that I'm scheduled to participate in an organized, invitational Civil War relic hunt here in VA next month. The ground is supposed to be good with the host saying in the most recent update: "The ground is excellent . . . if you have a detector that hunts deep, bring it.This site is mainly Confederate!"

So I'm believing the Nokta Relic fits the "detector that hunts deep" requirement!

You should do very well with the relic.
It is deep.

No problem. Let us know how it works out for ya!!
