it can work. I found it to do okay on reasonable-size nuggets. It's not as great on the smaller-size nuggets like the higher-frequency models such as the MXT series, or even the M6. Yes, I said the M6 because even though it lacks a Threshold-based All Metal mode, it still hits on gold nuggets in the 'zero' set Discriminate mode, just like the MXT's. I've used the M6 and MXT's to hunt several nugget producing sites in the past and had better performance in the Disc. mode than in the All Metal Prospecting mode of the MXT. It was a matter of better handling of the ground and site conditions.
The BlueMax DD 'Shooter' coil for the 6.59 kHz models was perhaps one of the worst performing coils I have ever used on any detector from any manufacturer. The similar-size DD 'Shooter' for the M6 & MXT, or the one I used on the Prizm 6T, worked a lot better. The DD for the 6.59 kHz models, both that I tried, were matched or bettered by the 4" Snooper coil (BlueMax 350) and definitely bettered by the excellent 6
