Making the Jump: White's vs. Garrett's

Hi. This is my first post on this forum . Getting ready to make my first detector purchase and have narrowed it down to the Garrett's 1500 vs. the White's XLT. Both seem very similar. Things I like and dislike about each. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Philip

Well both have been around for years and have stood the test of time.
Basically the GTI 1500 is a user friendly unit while the XLT is a more complex unit that will take a learning period but does provide more info with superior notching and tone ID..Having many years experience and using both feel the XLT is a superior unit but one wonders if a newbie should start out with one unless he perhaps has a mentor to guide him...

if you are going to use it for coins and jewelry buy the Whites M6. no real learning curve involved and has a slew of coils that work on with better technology.
