Making pictures smaller for posting.

Hey fellows...............I need help!!!! I have a Cannon PowerShot A95 5.0 Maga Pixels camera. It has a FC-32 MH compact flash card. I have a HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One printer. What is the best way for me to download my pictures and make them smaller so I can post my finds on the forum? I also have Kodak Easy-Share and Picasa-3 on my computer. I guess what I really need to know is after I put my flash card into my printer where should I go to downlaod my pictures so that they are small enough to post? I'm not very computer literate and I am a slow learner, so any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated. I have made pictures smaller in the past, but with a lot of trial and error and I can't remember what I did to make them smaller. I know that there must be a simpler way even for novice computer guys like me. Thanks for any help on this fellows.

Eddie

No - you're in the right place and somebody will show up who knows about Easy Share & Picassa. At last resort, try the directions. I think what you probly need to do is load the pix into the computer (not the printer) in one of those program files ... then from there figure out how to save the pic "for the internet" and save that COPY on your "desktop" or some other place where you can find it by name later. Then when you get ready to post it here, click on the "Upload File" on this message board, which should automatically take you back to your computer where you can get to the Desktop file (or whatever), select it by name, and it should wind up here on your draft message. That's sort of how it works with mine anyway, with Photoshop Elements and Mac machinery. The "saving for the internet" generally reduces the file size enough for decent transmission. Changing the physical dimensions of the pic may be a separate problem. You got to play around with the possibilities, print off your results to see what happened, etc. Don't worry about the infernal contraption blowing up. If it does -- start over!
Good Luck. :wiggle:

i just went through this process myself its rather easy, though there are other ways the way i used, as suggested by others is this.first down load photo, then right click on photo from your photo menu, then select open with, then select paint, when picture opens with the paint program,go to the toolbar and select stretch/skew,from that window type in 50% and save

Eddie,

I'm not the greatest communicator but I'll give it a shot here...

There are many ways to get your photos into your computer.
If you don't use your camera's proprietary software and you're on XP, it has a camera wizard that will detect that you've plugged your camera into the computer with the usb cord and turned it on...
It will ask you to download your photos to your "my photos" file.
Once you do that and you're sure they're there, you can delete them from your camera.

You said you have Picassa3.
Picassa3 is a beta software, but I've not had any real bugs surface.
It's actually an amazing piece of software that I'd recommend to anyone!

To get your photos small enough to post, open your Picassa3 and locate the photo that you wish to upload...
Do any fixing, cropping, editing, etc that you care to do and then with that photo selected, click on the "export" button at the bottom of your screen.
A window will open up and you'll simply select your desktop there as a location to export to, and also choose your size...

With the camera you have, you can likely select "800" as the size (for the longest side) and it will be under the 420 kb limit that is allowed here.

Say "OK" and it will export it to your selected folder on your desktop.

When you want to post a photo, as you begin your post it will say "Upload a File"...

Clicking on the "Upload" button, and then the "browse" button...

That will open a "browse window"...
Click on "desktop", then on whatever you named your file folder, and once inside that folder, you'll find your desired photo...
Click on it, and say "upload" and you're in the rodeo!

It's nearly 1:00 A.M. and it's been a long day so my quickie screenshots may not be dead on!! Lol...
I hope this will get you in the ballpark...
I don't get here so often, so if you have questions, I'm certain others have the knowledge to help!

Good Luck!
Bob
