Making a Tesoro Silver Umax Waterproof?

CampCache

New member
I am looking for the easiest and cheapest way to make a Tesoro Silver Umax waterproof. I don't want to have to cut any wires or take the control box apart. I am not going to be diving with it but shallow water hunting with it. At tops the machine might be under the water a foot down if even that. Just looking for a way to keep from frying the machine when shallow water hunting. Thanks!

Are you just wan ting a water resistant otter box houseing with your controls inside or Do you plan on just hun ting beaches like freshw ater swimming holes up to your neck? If thats the case I'd go with the headphone design and install your controls inside a set of headphones Like greyghosts or similar. Very much like the detectorpro but obviously with your silver umax.

What I did with my compadre units is used a Phyle metal detector . the phmd with the same type controls as the detectorpro pirate pro. and kept the controls inplace and unsoldered them from circuit board. I then reinsterted the compadre into place and gave it a sensitivity ,volume and disc mod. Works like a champ and parted with a few as well. easy way to hunt water with out all the extra hassle and chance of messing up your unit.

Just want a simple in the box mod for wading in shallow fresh water crossings. Thinking about finding a couple of rubber grommets that have roughly the same diameter hole as the wires for the tesoro and headphones. I could split them in half, drill a couple of holes in an Otter box that would recieve the grommets and insert them into the box. A little silicone would make it totally waterproof. Attach the box to the shaft and then I would be in business. Just have to find some rubber grommets that would work. Thanks for the input.

I used cable clams for marine electronics to make my Sov. Water proof box. Works great and I can easily take it out for land use. West marine carries them as do most marine supply stores.
