Making a new control box and shaft set up on My old Explorer

Frank(FL)

New member
I have and old Explorer, that I just took apart. Yes, the glue Minelab uses on the shaft were it meets the control Box was a bitc_ to get off, but it's done. After I got the thing apart I checked it out and it still boots up fine. I have a good amount of experience with electronics (27 years in the USAF) I now am tiring to figure out how to make a new box. I will just use the lid/top of the old control box. I am looking at making the whole project out of carbon fiber, rods and power supply holder. Has anyone else done this before? Just looking ideas that might help me out with this build. If it turns out nice I will most likely put my E-trac into it one day.

Thanks

Frank

Frank,

Haven't ever done that, but it sounds interesting. Keep us posted with updates and what you learn.

You are right about that. I am now looking for a way to connect the control box to the Minelab X-TERRA type handle. I really like the way Minelab connects the control box to the end of the grip on the X-TERRA 's. But I am having a hard time find who makes the locking connector. I would just need the one that's on the X-TERRA control box. I have a X-TERRA and found a part # on the one in the grip it's 0703-0156. I will keep looking. Thanks for the info on the weigh of the e-trac box.

Yes this is a great set up he made. I wish he could sell the kit so I could do a mob like that on my E-trac.
