Makeshift Environmental cover for your detector

Hi, all:

Found a nifty item to keep the rain off your F2, F4, F5, etc. machines. I was in a "Dollar Tree" store yesterday and found a package of eight clear see through shower caps for a dollar. They cover the whole control box and allow for a clear view of the ID screen. They have elastic around the outside and provide a nice snug fit. Thought I would pass that along.

Sure beats the bubble wrap and duct tape covers I usually make.
WIll ahve to keep an eye out at the Dollar Tree for those.

With a little luck, I'll be having an F 70 soon. :super:

What also works good are cooking pot covers which can be found in most discount chains. They come in a box of assorted sizes. The smallest ones fit the Tesoro Umax control boxes perfectly. They also have elastic built in.

Since I hunt with my girlfriend, I was "on to" the shower cap idea a while back. She thought of it for us.

I'll have to look left, then right, make sure no one's looking and plop that bad boy on to the F75's meter box. But doggone if it doesn't work super. Keeps rain at bay no matter how hard it's coming down.

I carry a couple inside my Camelbak's storage pocket or inside a side pocket of my pants.

Thanks for reminding us. Inexpensive means to protect our investments!

I remember this hint (cooking pot covers) coming up before, but I looked high and low and couldn't find any anywhere. I like the elastic around the shower cap, and I imagine the cooking pot covers have the same. Keeps them in place.

Which do you like better, Jimmy? The cooking pot covers or the shower caps? I've never tried the former but I imagine they'd work pretty well.

I'm partial to the shower caps because I once (shhhh! :) ) used them for their intended purpose of covering my head (and headphones). I got to thinking I didn't care for the idea of my $100 'phones getting ruined while I hunted.

I can't say I was exactly high fashion. Probably more along the lines of low fashion. But they worked.

But I'm not "brand loyal" to the shower caps. :) If pot covers work better -- I'd try some.

I wasn't able to find the pot covers, so it's shower caps for me.

We'll stick with the shower caps for now, then. Heck, they work well enough. And the sites we relic hunt are so far back in the woods I doubt anyone will notice my "doo rag" is plastic. :)

Good hunting,

Richard
