Make this pulltab/ring puller

(OK, now I got the picture inserted). My good Tesoro friends, I've been detecting since 1971 and finally I came up with a tool that gets rings, pulltabs, etc. out of the ground without digging a plug. Made from a Farberware 8" bread knife ($11.00 at Bed bath & Beyond). If you do make one, don't use a knife that has a long tapered point. Just stick the knife straight down into the ground and pull toward you and up, it hooks onto damn near anything. Tried it at a local park the other morining, pulled up the junk in the photo, no rings. Everything came out real easy including the soda can half. Was able to use it just two times before the the cold weather set in. No plug to cut, so no dirt to put back, or just a small amount at times. It usually leaves an invisible slit or two or three in the grass, works great in soft, moist soil. With really good pinpointing the target can be snagged the first swipe. The notches in the blade were cut one half inch wide by three eights inch deep and spaced one half inch apart. Needs 7 or 8 notches. A Dremel tool with metal cutting discs was used. Make one and you'll find twice as much junk in less than half the time, maybe even a ring. The handle needs to be beefed up for grip. Jabbo

I've noticed during the few times I used this tool that there is very little resistance from the soil when pulling small targets up out of the ground, stuff comes out real easy, maybe because the target follows the slit made by the blade. Used it yesterday, pulled up a lot of junk. Ground was soaked and muddy from two days of rain. Didn't need to get on my knees to dig, just bent over and stuck it in the ground.

considering you are using a piece of jagged steel to plunge, grab hold of and then pull out of fresh ground objects that are usually very thin, it is only inevitable that objects such as rings, chains ect. will bend, crush, break or become somewhat distorted in the process.

just out of curiosity, where did they build that park? I'm guessing on an old local dump or landfill because that has got to be one of the trashiest soil conditions I have eveer seen for a park/playground. I'm sure though there are many keepers amongst all that trash.

Check out the photo, the pull tabs are in great shape. Jabbo

is a pulltab worth $100, $200, $300 or more? I would never chance something like that just to save a lil time digging.
