Found this today its round fits over my pinky finger and says WPIA H48 then a serial # ? ( 87986 ) it has a rivet to hold it together to big for a bird band I dont have a clue any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance Styker47

Poultry band.

I have found 3 so far, all from different areas in Missouri. I found out they were used for chickens. One of mine is dated 48, another is 1950 and the last is not dated.

Thanks Aaron that's cool so the h 48 must mean 1948 which would be right for the area I wsas at. Appreciate the help Stryker

I actually found two, they were larger then what you would see on a tagged duck but the only reason I knew was they were wildlife bands was the fact that both had a couple inches of leg bone inside

i think they are called migratory bird tags. Helps the wildlife folks figure out stats on bird populations, birth place, shot place, however they don't do much good it not returned to the migratory bird folks.

I had to laugh at "several inches of duck bone attached".
