Major Mod on Stavr M9 Scoop

I have converted a Stavr M9 into a 90 degree handle version. I use what I call the triangle method to give it superior strength and stability. I have also modified the holes from the standard 10mm and made some 7/16" and 1/2" using a pattern of enlargement to improve sifting capability while still maintaining it's strength. I did this because I prefer the 90 degree handle over the 20 degree off set.

Sweet.... i mean that is one clean looking scoop. I modified mine to better us a fiberglass hoe handle. That hole he put in the handle was just to far down and kept splitting because of the twisting and pulling to get the scoop in and out of the sand. Ive not had a problem since. I like the added metal on the top front of the scoop. You need it especially with a 90 degree it really puts pressure there and can peal it back like a can lid. Good Job Mel.

Here's my version of a Stavr M9 handle. I put a foot long stainless dowel tube in the neck of the scoop and slid over it a curved aluminum long handle with a welded assist handle. I put a pin thru the scoop neck and dowel. This setup let's me dig one handed. The Stavr scoop really slices thru the wet sand better than my other aluminum bucket scoop with the shovel lip.

Very nice Robocop, but what is the black piece in front of scoop? some hardened metal?

That was a mod that I did last summer. Here's the link http://www.findmall.com/read.php?26,1930712

Funny the week after I posted that mod somebody on another forum ( not very friendly ) did the same mod and claimed credit. Senior member too.

I like that modified hole pattern Mel...I'll tell ya, a fellow gets to appreciate a good scoop pretty fast. Nice work all around there fellows!

on a little note, I tinned the front edge of my aluminum scoop with that Alumaweld rod that you can easily solder on with a propane torch, its a LOT harder than the base metal, takes a good edge that lasts better than just the plain old aluminum...
